Group Stage Recap
Romania were the surprise winners of Group E as they finished ahead of group favourites Belgium thanks to a higher number of goals scored. Romania kicked off their tournament in style as they swept Ukraine aside in a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Nicolae Stanciu, Razvan Marin and Denis Dragus. They were then handed a reality check when losing 2-0 against Belgium in their second match but secured their spot in the knockout stage with a 1-1 draw against Slovakia in their final group game. All four nations involved in Group E finished level on four points but Romania finished ahead of Belgium, Slovakia and Ukraine.
Netherlands had to settle for third place in Group D despite leading the group with just ten minutes to play in their third and final group game. The Dutch got their tournament underway by coming from behind to defeat Poland in their opening game before holding France to a 0-0 draw in Leipzig.
In order to top the group the Netherlands simply had to avoid defeat and equal France’s final day result. However, Ronald Koeman’s side put in an abject performance as they were downed 3-2 against Austria in Berlin to finish third in the group with four points from three matches.
Team News
Romania will be without any natural left-sided defenders on Tuesday as full-back Nicusor Bancu serves a one-match suspension following a second yellow card of the group stage against Slovakia. Razvan Marin should be fit enough to start despite departing early from the draw against Slovakia.
The Netherlands have no fresh injury concerns but Joey Veerman is likely to end a week to forget but dropping out of the Dutch starting XI on Tuesday. The PSV Eindhoven midfielder was hooked just 35 minutes into last Tuesday’s defeat to Austria and replacement Xavi Simons is likely to start against Romania.
Possible Line Ups

Betting Tips
This is far from a vintage Dutch side but if they’re anywhere near their best on Tuesday they should prove too good for Romania. Netherlands are excellent value at 4/9 to win within 90 minutes.
Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo has scored twice already at Euro 2024 with strikes against both Poland and Austria. The 25-year-old has an excellent record in major tournaments having also scored three times at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and he will prove hugely popular at 8/5 to score at any time on Tuesday. Alternatively, Gakpo can be backed at 4/1 to score first.
