Euro 2024 Form

Netherlands progressed to the knockout stage as one of the best placed third place teams having finished behind Austria and France in Group D. The Netherlands kicked off their tournament by coming from behind to earn a 2-1 win against Poland but failed to win any of their next two group games. Following a 0-0 draw against France, the Netherlands lost 3-2 against group winners Austria.

The Netherlands produced one of the biggest wins of the knockout stage as they eased to a 3-0 win against Romania on Tuesday. Cody Gakpo opened the scoring for Ronald Koeman’s side before a second-half brace from Donyell Malen secured the win.

Turkey reached the knockout stage with two wins from three matches in Group F. Although Vincenzo Montella’s side suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat against Portugal, wins over Georgia (3-1) and Czech Republic (2-1) saw them set up a round of 16 tie with Group D winners Austria.

Turkey went into their round of 16 clash with Austria as underdogs but earned a deserved 2-1 win thanks to two goals from central defender Merih Demiral.

Netherlands v Turkey: Head-to-Head

The Netherlands have a slightly superior record in head-to-head matches between these two nations. In 14 previous matches between the Netherlands and Turkey, the Netherlands have won six times compared to four wins for Turkey with four matches ended even.

The most recent match between the Netherlands and Turkey came in a FIFA World Cup qualifier back in September 2021 with the Dutch running out comfortable 6-1 winners in Amsterdam. Memphis Depay netted a hat-trick whilst the Netherlands’ other goals were scored by Davy Klaasen, Guus Til and Donyell Malen. Cengiz Under was on target for Turkey.

Team News

Hakan Calhanoglu set to return from suspension

Steven Bergwijn was a surprise inclusion in the Dutch starting line up against Romania but was subbed off at half-time for what Ronald Koeman described as “physical issues” and after the second-half performance of replacement Donyell Malen, Bergwijn is likely to be back on the bench on Saturday.

Indiscipline continues to impact Turkey’s team selections with two more players set to sit out Saturday’s quarter-final through suspension. Abdulkerim Bardakci missed the group game against the Czech Republic due to an accumulation of bookings whilst both Samet Akaydin and Hakan Calhanoglu sat out the win over Austria in the round of 16. On Saturday both Orkun Kokcu and Ismail Yuksek will miss the quarter-final after picking up their second yellow cards of the tournament against Austria.

Possible Line Ups

Netherlands: Verbruggen, Ake, Van Dijk, De Vrij, Dumfries, Reijnders, Schouten, Simons, Gakpo, Malen, Depay

Turkey: Gunok, Akaydin, Demiral, Ayhan, Kadioglu, Calhanoglu, Ozcan, Muldur, Yildiz, Guler, Yilmaz

Betting Tips

The Oranje are nicely warming into Euro 2024 and we’re tipping them to progress to next week’s semi-final at odds of 16/25. The Netherlands had 23 shots on goal against Romania and whilst they netted three times, on another day they could have scored five or six. Against a Turkey side yet to keep a clean sheet in the competition over 1.5 team goals for the Netherlands is excellent value at 13/20.

Cody Gakpo continues to impress in Germany as he scored one and assisted another in Tuesday’s win over Romania. Gakpo is now the joint-highest scorer at Euro 2024 and will prove popular at 12/5 to score at any time on Saturday. Alternatively, Gakpo can be backed to score first at odds of 6/1.

Turkey boast an awful disciplinary record at Euro 2024 having picked up a tournament-high 18 yellow cards in their four matches so far. No fewer than five Turkish players have served a one-game suspension at some point throughout the tournament. In contrast, the Netherlands have received just four yellow cards in their four matches so far if you’re considering any bets related to player discipline then the Turkish side are the team to back on Saturday.
