July Festival - Day Three Betting Tips & Odds

It was a bad day at the office for the bookmakers on day two of the July Festival with the SP favourites winning five of the day’s seven races at Newmarket. The Falmouth Stakes winner Porta Fortuna was undoubtedly the star of the show whilst there were also notable wins for the likes of Involvement, Arabian Dusk and Fairbanks.
The third and final day of the festival includes another seven races including the Group 2 Superlative Stakes as well as the feature race, the Group 1 July Cup Stakes. As we look ahead to Saturday’s exciting day of racing, here at betting.bet we have narrowed the full card down to three red-hot picks. VOLTERRA - 4/1
Volterra won on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile back in May in a race where the horse in second bounced back to win back over C&D two weeks later before then going on to finish a close second in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot. Volterra finished well down the field in the Britannia but can be excused after finding himself in the wrong group at Ascot. Races on the same mark as he did at Ascot and certainly worth another chance.
Qirat won a valuable handicap over 7f at Goodwood two runs back and finished sixth on his first run over 1m in last month’s Britannia Stakes. Certainly enjoyed himself over the longer trip at Ascot and again has an excellent chance but he certainly benefited from far more fortunate positioning than Volterra at Ascot and the latter is capable of reversing that form.

bet365 Superlative Stakes (Group 2)
ANCIENT TRUTH - 13/8
The first Group-level race of the day is the Superlative Stakes and this year’s renewal of the Group 2 has a short-priced favourite in the Charlie Appleby-trained Ancient Truth. This exciting colt is eyeing a hat-trick of wins at Newmarket having landed two recent wins with relative ease. Showed a devastating turn of foot to pull clear of Invited over C&D last time out and he’ll take some stopping on Saturday.
Columnist comes next in the betting after going close over 6f in the Coventry Stakes but there are major question marks over his ability to stay this longer trip. The Parthenon could prove to be the best of the rest here for trainer Aidan O’Brien. Ran in a Group 3 on debut and remained competitive throughout despite finishing 5/7. Followed up by landing a maiden at Gowran Park over 7f last month. Well-bred and capable of further progress.

My Pension Expert July Cup Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series)
VANDEEK - 10/3
Inisherin is a well-backed favourite for the July Cup but one we’re happy to oppose on Saturday. The Kevin Ryan-trained three-year-old heads to Newmarket with two wins from two since dropping to 6f. Recent wins in both the Sandy Lane Stakes and Commonwealth Cup certainly help make a case for Inisherin but it’s the beaten favourite from the Commonwealth Cup that we’re tipping to bounce back here. Vandeek won 4/4 as a two-year-old including Group 1 wins in both the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes. He went off 8/11 in the Commonwealth Cup on his first run of the year but was 4 lengths off Inisherin in third. Soft ground certainly looked a problem at Ascot and he is capable of bouncing back under more suitable conditions at Newmarket on Saturday.
