Road To The Final
Barbora Krejcikova reached Saturday’s final by completing a shock win over fourth seed Elena Rybakina in the semi-final. Ahead of the semi-final matches, Rybakina was the odds-on favourite to win a second Wimbledon title in three years and looked on course to reach the final once more as she raced to a 6-3 first set win on Thursday. However, Krejcikova hit back to win the next two sets (6-3 6-4) to reach her first Grand Slam final since winning the 2021 French Open title. Krejcikova has reached Saturday’s final by defeating four successive top twenty players including Beatriz Haddad Mia, Danielle Collins, Jelena Ostapenko and finally Rybakina.
Jasmine Paolini has reached a second successive Grand Slam final having lost the final of this year’s French Open to Iga Swiatek in straight sets. Paolini came through a thrilling semi-final against Donna Vekic courtesy of a third set tie-breaker. The Italian lost the first set 6-2 before bouncing back to win 6-4 in the second set. Paolini won 7-6 in a superb third set after winning 10-8 in a tie-breaker.
The draw has been kind to Jasmine Paolini with four of her six matches so far at Wimbledon coming against unseeded players and the highest-seeded player she’s come up against (Madison Keys) was forced to retire through injury with their fourth round match finely poised. She did however earn an impressive quarter-final win over Emma Navarro in straight sets.
Barbora Krejcikova v Jasmine Paolini: Head-to-Head
Barbora Krejcikova and Jasmine Paolin have never met in a major tournament with their only previous meeting coming in an Australian Open qualifier back in 2018. Barbora Krejcikova won in straight sets in Melbourne (6-2 6-1) but that result will have very little bearing on Saturday's final.

Saturday’s final between Barbora Krejcikova and Jasmine Paolin is an intriguing contest. Jasmine Paolini boasts the best form in 2024 having reached her second successive Grand Slam final of the year whilst extending her record for the year to 15 wins in Grand Slam events. On the other side of the net is doubles specialist Barbora Krejcikova. Krejcikova had not made it past round four of the Wimbledon women’s singles event in six previous attempts yet she does have doubles titles to her name with wins at SW19 in both 2018 and 2022. The 28-year-old boasts an impressive ten wins in Grand Slam doubles events as well as her solitary French Open singles title in 2021.

Jasmine Paolini played in the longest ever women’s semi-final at Wimbledon on Thursday and it remains to be seen how much that defeat took out of the world number seven.
