Glorious Goodwood Betting Tips, Previews & Odds - Day Two

Here at betting.bet we’ve hand-picked some of our big fancies throughout the afternoon

Glorious Goodwood continues on Wednesday with seven more hotly-anticipated races scheduled to take place. The Group 1 Sussex Stakes is the feature race on day two and is one of three Group-level races on a very competitive looking card. Here at betting.bet we’ve hand-picked some of our big fancies throughout the afternoon, providing odds from our betting partners at Betfred.

1:50

Coral Daily Rewards Shaker Handicap

FRENCH DUKE - 4/1

Lord Of Love and Subsequent are bidding for favouritism in the Shaker Handicap and both should give a bold account of themselves in the day’s opener. Subsequent is eyeing a hat-trick after wins at Haydock and Salisbury last month but he now has to contend with a 7lbs rise. Meanwhile Lord Of Love is also bidding for a hat-trick after following up success in a maiden at Salisbury by winning on his handicap debut at Newmarket two weeks ago. Up 4lbs for that win but certainly looks open to more progress on Wednesday.

French Duke endured a difficult day in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot but with a first-time hood fitted and James Doyle in the saddle, he should fare better on Wednesday. Raced wide at Ascot but ran on well enough to suggest there may be more to come from him. Of the leading three in the market, he gets the nod.

Visit Qatar Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares)

JABAARA - 5/2

Jabaara is the bookies’ favourite to win the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes and the Roger Varian-trained three-year-old looks every inch the race winner on Wednesday. Won two Listed contests in June before taking second behind Porta Fortuna over 1m in the Falmouth Stakes last time out. Stepping back in trip for this and will take some beating back amongst Group 3 company.

If you’re looking for some each-way value then Sea Of Thieves is potentially overpriced at 22/1. Failed to see out the trip in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes last month but did win a Listed race at Longchamp on her first run for trainer Mario Baratti in April.

3:00

Jaeger-Lecoultre Molecomb Stakes (Group 3)

AESTERIUS - 2/1

The Archie Watson-trained speedster Aesterius is a future Group 1 horse and he’s a worthy market leader on Wednesday. The £380,000 breeze-up purchase went close in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and kicked on to win a Listed race at Sandown earlier this month. A major player for a decent draw in stall ten.

Stablemate Vingegaard could offer Archie Watson a 1-2 in the Molecomb Stakes and it would not be a surprise to see him turn over Aesterius from a plum high draw. Built on a solid run in the Windsor Castle Stakes to go close in the Super Sprint at Newbury earlier this month. Another that possesses a tremendous turn of foot and offers place claims at the very least.

3:35

Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series)

HENRY LONGFELLOW - 6/4

The feature race on day two of Glorious Goodwood is the Group 1 Sussex Stakes. The withdrawal of three-time Group 1 winner Rosallion has left us with just five horses set to go to post but there are plenty in with a chance of success. Henry Longfellow was beaten by just a neck by Rosallion in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and will be a major player at Goodwood on Wednesday.

The main danger is Notable Speech for trainer Charlie Appleby. The Godolphin colt was disappointing in the St James’s Palace Stakes but this year’s 2000 Guineas winner cannot be ruled out of this. Ahead of the Sussex Stakes, Charlie Appleby, stated that Notable Speech “hasn't missed a beat heading into this” and he should be right in the mix.

"Notable Speech has had a little break since Royal Ascot and hasn't missed a beat heading into this. His run in the St James's Palace Stakes was obviously disappointing and it was a strange race to watch as he didn't run through the line at all. We had him checked out by the vets afterwards and nothing came to light."Charlie Appleby comments on Notable Speech's chances

Away from the leading pair in the market, last year’s runner-up Facteur Cheval has every chance of another big run despite only finishing eighth in the Queen Anne Stakes. The five-year-old found himself isolated down the middle of the track at Ascot and is certainly capable of better. Audience’s dominant Lennox Stakes win on Tuesday has certainly boosted Facteur Cheval’s Queen Anne form. Won a Group 1 at Meydan in March and has been largely overlooked ahead of this year’s Sussex Stakes.
