We reach the halfway point of Glorious Goodwood on Thursday with eight more races scheduled for the third day of the five-day meeting. The day’s feature race is the Group 1 Nassau Stakes whilst the action gets underway with a competitive looking Kincsem renewal. As we look ahead to another day full of top-class racing, here at betting.bet we have hand-picked some interesting entries, providing the latest race odds from our partners at BoyleSports.
2:25
Markel Richmond Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (IRE Incentive Race)
THE STRIKIN VIKING - 5/4
The first Group race on Thursday will see The Strikin Viking go to post as a big favourite for the Richmond Stakes. Running for Hamad Al Jehani for the first time, the market leader showed enough in two runs for Kevin Ryan to suggest he’ll have enough to land this. Won on debut at York before finishing a close second in the Group 2 Railway Stakes last month.
Tropical Storm comes next in the betting on the back of a solid second in what looks a strong Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. All three runs so far have come over 5f but the extra furlong shouldn’t be too much a problem. In fact, the speedy conditions we’ve seen at Goodwood this week could benefit this out-and-out sprinter.
King Of Bears offers excellent each-way value for a yard with four previous wins in the race. Won a novice race at Newbury last time out and this is a considerable step up in class but he looks overpriced.

John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes (Group 3)
JAN BRUEGHEL - 5/6
There are some talented three-year-olds in the Gordon Stakes including red-hot favourite Jan Brueghel for Aidan O’Brien. Two from two for the favourite with both runs coming over 1m2f at the Curragh. Should relish the step up in trip and certainly the one to beat in this.
The main danger could be Sayedaty Sadaty on his first run for new trainer David Simcock. Ran well in the Derby for Andrew Balding on his first run over 1m4f and certainly capable of improvement. Bellum Justum has six lengths to make up on Sayedaty Sadaty based on their Epsom form but put in a solid effort when third in the Hampton Court Stakes at Ascot last time out. May prove better-suited to 1m2f over time but Goodwood’s sharp 1m4f shouldn’t pose too many stamina issues.
Meydaan seems to have been overlooked in the betting ahead of the Gordon Stakes and holds solid each-way claims for trainers Simon and Ed Crisford. No match for two talented rivals when third in the Derby Trial at Lingfield but won a Listed contest over 1m3f at Goodwood two races back. Failed to see out the trip in the 1m6f Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot but should be respected back at Goodwood.

Qatar Nassau Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies & Mares) (British Champions Series)
OPERA SINGER - 7/4
The biggest race of the day is the Qatar Nassau Stakes with some real stars entered for the Group 1 this year. Two-time Group 1 winner Emily Upjohn should go off as favourite for trainers John and Thady Gosden following a strong run when second in the Pretty Polly Stakes last time out. Opera Singer is also a major player as she steps up to 1m2f on the back of a solid second in the Coronation Stakes and a third in the Irish 1000 Guineas. Won a Group 1 at Longchamp last autumn and has an excellent chance providing she sees out this new trip.
Sparkling Plenty has won successive Group races in France including the Prix de Diane last time out. This talented filly is a real dark horse on her first run outside of France. Elmalka was almost three lengths off Opera Singer in the Coronation Stakes but the 1000 Guineas has to be respected. 2000 Guineas winner Notable Speech bounced back from his own Royal Ascot disaster to land the Sussex Stakes on Wednesday and Elmalka is certainly capable of producing a similar return to form and there are suggestions she’ll be better suited to Thursday’s 1m2f trip.
