The Qatar Goodwood Festival continues into Friday as we look ahead to seven more races of day four of Glorious Goodwood. The Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes is the feature race on Friday and here at betting.bet our resident tipsters have delved into all seven races to provide insights and exclusive betting tips as well as the latest race odds from our betting partners at Ladbrokes.

Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3)

TASK FORCE - 5/1

Dancing Gemini drops back down in trip and class as he returns to 1m after failing to make an impact in either the Derby or the Eclipse over 1m2f. Runner-up over 1m in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains at Longchamp in May. The ground is probably the only concern for Dancing Gemini with his best runs coming on softer ground. Oisin Murphy is booked to ride with Kieran Shoemark set to saddle Lead Artist for the Gosden team.

Lead Artist is lightly raced and a likely improver but he was well-beaten by Al Musmak last time out. Al Musmak was second in the Royal Lodge Stakes last year and after two sub-par runs over 1m2f he bounced back to win a Listed contest over a mile last time out. Cannot be ruled out here.

Our preference is for Task Force who is yet to get going this year after a promising juvenile season. Task Force went 2/2 before finishing second in last year’s Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket. Had wind surgery over the autumn and failed to make an impact in the 2000 Guineas on his return from a break but showed signs of encouragement when keeping on for seventh in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. Seems better suited to Friday’s trip and could run a big race. First-time tongue tie applied.

Coral Golden Mile (Heritage Handicap)

DARKNESS - 8/1

There's a wide-open Golden Mile contest taking place on Friday with 18 runners confirmed for this year’s renewal of the 1m handicap. David O’Meara has trained the winner of this race in two of the last four years and despite the absence of New Image, he possesses several excellent chances of winning on Friday. Blue For You has been well-drawn and is the preferred ride of Danny Tudhope therefore has to be respected. Blue For You was runner up in the race two years ago and whilst he carries a 3lbs penalty on Friday he has to be respected after winning at York three weeks ago.

Stablemate, Orbann won this in 2022 and has been drawn alongside Blue For You in stall five. Impressed when winning the Carlisle Bell in June but his underwhelming run off a revised mark last time out is a little unnerving. Certainly capable of winning this but he’s nine years old now and his best days are probably behind him. The pick of the O’Meara entries could be Darkness under the ride of Hector Crouch. Fourth in this last year but returns 3lbs lower and in good form. Won at Newmarket two runs ago and probably found himself too far away from the action to properly compete last time out.

Away from the David O’Meara cavalry, Classic holds plenty of appeal for trainer Richard Hannon. Did not appreciate the soft ground when coming home ninth of ten at Sandown last time out but went close against an in-form rival at the same track back in June. Will appreciate the faster ground at Goodwood and handed a very useful draw in stall three. Definitely one for the shortlist.

King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2)

ASFOORA - 10/3

The feature race on Friday could prove the race of the week with Big Evs and Asfoora set for a King George Qatar Stakes showdown. Big Evs was one of the stars of last year’s festival when making all to land the Molecomb Stakes before going on to cap an excellent juvenile campaign with Breeders’ Cup success. Defied top weight to land a Listed contest on his first run this year but could only manage third in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot.

King Charles III winner Asfoora remains the one to beat despite a 5lbs penalty. Left several of Friday’s entries trailing at Ascot and there could be more to come from this Australian superstar. Asfoora has remained in the UK since that Ascot win and if she wins on Friday, we could see her follow up by running in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York later this month.

Friday’s showdown between these two stars is a worthy feature race on the penultimate day of Glorious Goodwood and whilst our heart says Big Evs, our head says Asfoora. Believing cannot be completely ruled out after landing the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh last time out and is an excellent each-way prospect.
