Glorious Goodwood Betting Tips, Previews & Odds - Day Five

Here at betting.bet we’ll preview the final day of Glorious Goodwood, offering expert tips, insights and race odds
A thrilling Qatar Goodwood Festival draws to a close on Saturday but not before another red-hot day of flat racing on the Sussex Downs. Saturday’s card includes seven more flat races including the feature race, the Stewards’ Cup and a couple of Group races with both the Glorious Stakes and Lillie Langtry Stakes part of the day’s card. Here at betting.bet we’ll preview the final day of Glorious Goodwood, offering expert tips, insights and race odds courtesy of our partners at Coral.
1:50
Coral Glorious Stakes (Group 3)
AIMERIC - 7/2
The day's racing starts with the Group 3 Coral Glorious Stakes and whilst there are only five runners confirmed for the opening race, every entry possesses a real chance of winning.
Phantom Flight posted a career-best performance to defeat Al Aasy in a Listed race last time out and should probably fare the better of the two again on Saturday. However, preference is for Aimeric for trainer Roger Varian having finished twice in successive runs, including once over C&D. Ran into the same in-form rival on both occasions and could go one better under jockey James Doyle.
3:00
Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares)
FREE WIND - 11/4
The quick ground at Goodwood this week is probably not ideal for last year’s wide-margin Lillie Langtry winner Sumo Sam whilst Melo Melo and Term Of Engagement would’ve also preferred the ground to be softer under foot. The conditions should work in favour of the likes of Caius Chorister and Free Wind. The latter is likely to go off as favourite for trainer David Menuisier. No match for Bluestocking in the Middleton Fillies’ Stakes at York on her only run this year but there is nothing of that quality in this.
Divine Comedy looks overpriced and will certainly be in the running for minor places at least. Improved with every run this year, winning over 2m at Haydock before running on to take second in the Ascot Stakes last time out. Better suited to 2m+ but cannot be ruled out of this.
3:35
Coral Stewards' Cup (Heritage Handicap)
ALBASHEER - 13/2
The feature race on the final day of Glorious Goodwood is the much-anticipated Coral Stewards’ Cup. There are 28 entries for this 6f sprint handicap and it often proves to be one of the most entertaining races of the entire week.
The betting for this year’s renewal is currently led by Dark Trooper and given Qatar’s relationship with the Goodwood Festival, he would no doubt prove a popular winner. Enjoyed a solid three-year-old campaign for trainer Ed Walker and has made further progress since switching to Alban De Mieulle. Excellent second in the Wokingham last time out and has to contend with a 3lbs rise on a sharper track but certainly one for the shortlist.
Purosangue ran Big Evs close in the Molecombe last year and after seeing the latter charge to more Goodwood glory on Friday, there could yet be more to come from Purosangue. Contested three Group races this year before being edged into second in the Coral Charge last time out. 4lbs ahead of the handicapper and has to be respected.
Trainer John Quinn has an excellent record at Glorious Goodwood and Mr Wagyu could improve on last year’s fourth place finish off 3lbs lower on Saturday. C&D winner that’ll relish the quick ground and should outperform his 20/1 odds.
The pick of the field could be Albasheer for trainer Archie Watson. Hollie Doyle will be on board as she was when winning a 5f handicap at Ascot last time out. 5lbs hike for that win retains every chance.
