League One Treble: Birmingham City, Lincoln City & Exeter City to win - 8.34/1
The return of the English Football League this weekend will see the start of one of the strongest third tier campaigns ever. There are no fewer than eight former Premier League sides competing in League One this season and as everyone hopes to get their campaign off to a winning start, here at betting.bet we’ve picked out a handful of clubs we’re backing to do exactly that. As well as exclusive insights and betting tips we have provided the latest match odds courtesy of our betting partners at William Hil.
League One Treble Odds - 8.34/1
- Birmingham City (8/15)
- Lincoln City (11/10)
- Exeter City (19/10)
Birmingham City v Reading
BIRMINGHAM CITY to win - 8/15
Birmigham City are the bookies’ red-hot favourites in the League One outright betting market as The Blues look to make an immediate return to the Championship. Chris Davies is now in charge at St Andrews in his first senior management role and the Birmingham City board have certainly backed their new man, spending more than double what the division’s other 23 sides have spent combined on new players this summer.
Reading visit St Andrews on the opening weekend of the new campaign and after taking just 18 points from 23 away league games last season, The Royals will be up against it on Saturday. Adding Birmingham City to our weekend accumulators may become a bit of a theme over the next nine months.
Burton Albion v Lincoln City
LINCOLN CITY to win - 11/10
Burton Albion narrowly avoided the drop last season despite winning just two of their last 14 league games in 2023/24. Manager Martin Paterson was replaced by Mark Robinson during the summer and whilst he’s expected to improve the Brewers’ fortunes this season, he may have to wait at least a week for his first win with Lincoln City tipped to take all three points from their Pirelli Stadium visit.
Lincoln City narrowly missed out on a play-off spot last season but have arguably been the most impressive side in the division since the turn of the year. The Imps won 1-0 away at Burton Albion last season and another three points could be on the cards for a side that boasted one of the division’s best away records last season.
Exeter City v Rotherham United
EXETER CITY to win - 19/10
No side took more points from their final eight League One fixtures last season than Exeter City and despite finishing a modest 13th in the league they could be real dark horses for the play-offs in 2024/25. The Grecians were one of the few sides to earn more points away than at home last season and an upturn in their form at St James Park could see them nab a top six finish in the upcoming campaign.
A season opener at home to Rotherham United will please Exeter City with the visitors still hurting from last season’s disastrous Sky Bet Championship campaign. The Millers won just five of their 46 league games to be relegated from the Championship without so much as a whimper. The Millers lost goalkeeper Viktor Johansson to Stoke City during the summer and could be set for another difficult season despite some encouraging results in pre-season.
