League Two Treble Odds - 13/2
- Chesterfield (13/20)
- Doncaster Rovers (4/7)
- Port Vale (19/10)
Chesterfield v Swindon Town
CHESTERFIELD to win - 13/20
Chesterfield eased to the National League title last season and should kick off their League Two campaign in similarly easy fashion on Friday evening. The Spireites head into the campaign on the back of successive friendly wins against Derby County (4-0) and Scunthorpe United (3-0) and we’re tipping them to make light work of a Swindon Town side that boasted the division’s worst away record last season.
Swindon Town won just three of their 23 away league games last season and after a busy summer of transfers in and out of the club, they may be slow out of the traps this season.
Doncaster Rovers v Accrington Stanley
DONCASTER ROVERS to win - 4/7
Doncaster Rovers’ astonishing rise up the League Two table in the second half of last season saw them go from relegation candidates to qualify for the play-offs. Grant McCann’s side are one of the bookies’ favourites to earn promotion this time around and they start their campaign with a very winnable home fixture against an Accrington Stanely side that lost 13 times on the road last season.
Accrington Stanley signed off their 2023/24 campaign with three defeats in four league games whilst they have lost five of their six pre-season friendlies this summer, posting embarrassing defeats against the likes of Clitheroe and Lancaster City.
Salford City v Port Vale
PORT VALE to win - 19/10
Only relegated Forest Green Rovers possessed a worse home record than Salford City in League Two last season with the Ammies taking just 23 points from their 23 home league games in 2023/24. Salford showed some signs of improvement following the January recruitment of manager Karl Robinson but a mid-table finish is again likely to be the ceiling of their expectations this season.
Port Vale are Saturday’s visitors to Moor Lane and having retained the bulk of the squad that played in League One last season, they are amongst the bookies’ favourites to bounce straight back to the third tier. Port Vale endured a season to forget in 2023/24 but on paper they are amongst the strongest sides in the division. Port Vale sat second in League One after eight matches of last season with six wins, one draw and one defeat; a similar start to the upcoming campaign is not beyond Darren Moore’s side.
