Premier League Outright Betting Tips & Odds (Relegation Special)

Here at betting.bet we’ll take a look at some of the clubs expected to be involved in a scrap for survival in the Premier League

The Premier League returns this weekend ahead of what promises to be a fascinating 2024/25 campaign. The relegation betting market is always one of the most popular pre-season outright markets and this summer has been no exception. The market for the coming season is wide-open and here at betting.bet we’ll take a look at some of the clubs expected to be involved in a scrap for survival in the Premier League. Our relegation special includes football odds from our betting partners at Coral.

How Will The Newly-Promoted Sides Fare?

Last season the three sides promoted from the Championship were all relegated in their first season with Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United amassing a total of just 66 points between them. This year Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton are the clubs tasked with handling the step up from the second tier.

The trio head the relegation market with Coral anticipating all three clubs to struggle over the coming season. In fact, you can back all three clubs to be relegated at 6/1 or any two of three at odds of 6/5. Leicester City are the side most likely to be relegated according to bookmakers despite earning promotion as champions from last season’s Sky Bet Championship. The Foxes have a looming points deduction for a breach of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR) whilst their ongoing financial woes mean they are one of the division’s lowest net spenders. Inexperienced trio Issahaku Fatawu, Caleb Okoli and Michael Golding have all joined the Leicester City ranks along with free transfer Bobby Decordova-Reid whilst one of their key players from last season, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has followed title-winning manager Enzo Maresca in joining Chelsea.

Ipswich Town were the surprise package in the Championship last season as they clinched a second successive promotion and they’ve not done their chances of beating the drop any harm with some real shrewd summer signings. Omari Hutchinson has made his loan move permanent whilst Liam Delap and Jacob Greaves joined the Tractor Boys on the back of successful Championship campaigns at Hull City. Goalkeeper Arijanet Muric and Ben Johnson offer limited yet much-needed Premier League experience having signed from Burnley and West Ham United respectively.

Last season’s play-off winners Southampton are hardly recognisable from the side that were relegated from the Premier League two seasons ago. The Saints offloaded the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Romeo Lavia, Tino Livramento and Nathan Tella before earning an immediate return to the top-flight. Russell Martin’s side have been fairly active in pre-season, drafting in the likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Flynn Downes, Ben Brereton Diaz and Yukinari Sugawara.

Other Potential Strugglers

Wolves finished well clear of the bottom three last season, earning 46 points to finish in 14th position. However, they have been the subject of plenty of money in the relegation market after losing their captain and arguably their best player with Max Kilman and Pedro Neto moving to West Ham United and Chelsea respectively this summer. Despite raking in over £100m in transfer fees on the duo, they have been pretty quiet in the transfer window, signing just a handful of youngsters including Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima and Tommy Doyle.

Everton and Nottingham Forest endured a tough time on and off the pitch last season with a series of points deduction threatening their Premier League statuses. Both clubs remain under pressure financially and head into the season on the back of a summer with very little on-field investment. Everton have signed Jake O’Brien, Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam but lost Amadou Onana and Ben Godfrey to Aston Villa and Atalanta respectively. The Toffees look set to keep hold of Jarrad Brainthwaite for one more season at least whilst any success this season could hinge on their ability to keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit and firing. Nottingham Forest spent big on Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic this summer but recouped the majority of the transfer fees spent with a series of sales. Departing players from the City Ground this summer include Orel Mangala, Moussa Niakhate and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

The Elephant In The Room

There is a glaring anomaly when comparing the latest relegation odds with the Premier League’s title odds. Whilst title challengers Liverpool and Arsenal are priced at 500/1 to be relegated, reigning champions and current outright favourites Manchester City are priced at just 10/1 to be relegated. These remarkably low odds are due to the 115 charges for financial irregularities hanging over Manchester City. It is believed that an independent commission is set to rule on the charges in mid-September with a decision set to be announced in the spring. Manchester City have won the Premier League in six of the past seven seasons yet relegation is a real possibility.
