EFL Acca - Saturday Special (17th August)

Sheffield United, Burnley, Charlton Athletic, Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers to win - 12/1

The EFL returned with a bang last weekend with some huge wins for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Doncaster Rovers. As we approach the second week of fixtures across the Championship, League One and League Two, our resident tipsters have put together a tidy little accumulator bet for your consideration. Today’s football betting tips include odds from one if the most popular online football betting sites, BetVictor.

EFL Acca Odds - 12/1

  • Sheffield United to win (8/11)
  • Burnley to win (4/9)
  • Charlton Athletic to win (4/5)
  • Bradford City to win (4/6)
  • Doncaster Rovers to win (3/4)

Sheffield United v Queens Park Rangers

SHEFFIELD UNITED to win - 8/11

Sheffield United were installed as one of the pre-season favourites to win promotion back to the Premier League and impressed last weekend in a 2-0 win away at Preston North End. Preston boss Ryan Lowe resigned in the aftermath of that loss and next up for the Blades is a home tie against QPR.

Queens Park Rangers earned more points away from home than at home last season so it wasn’t a complete shock to see them go down to a 3-1 loss at home to West Bromwich Albion last weekend. QPR are expected to improve on last weekend’s defeat but we feel Sheffield United should have too much for the visitors at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

Burnley v Cardiff City

BURNLEY to win - 4/9

Burnley dusted off their relegation in some style last weekend as they earned a convincing 4-1 win away at Luton Town in Scott Parker’s first game in charge. In contrast, Cardiff City put in a tame performance at home to Sunderland, losing 2-0 to the Black Cats. A home win looks on the cards at Turf Moor.

Cardiff City lost 3-0 on their last trip to Turf Moor and are winless away at Burnley since 1988. The Bluebirds have failed to score in three straight away games against Burnley.

Charlton Athletic v Leyton Orient

CHARLTON ATHLETIC to win - 4/5

There’s a London derby at the Valley on Saturday as Charlton Athletic host Leyton Orient in one of the day’s early kick-offs. Charlton Athletic were amongst the pre-tournament favourites to win League One having enjoyed a remarkable upturn in form following the appointment of Nathan Jones as manager in February. The Latics started their campaign with a scarcely-deserved three points at Wigan Athletic on the opening weekend but we’re backing them to make it two wins from two on Saturday.

Visitors Leyton Orient were far from disgraced when going down 2-1 at home to Bolton Wanderers last weekend but that defeat now extends their record to five defeats in their last eight league games. Under respected boss Richie Wellens, Leyton Orient will certainly win more than they lose this season but we’re pessimistic about their chances of taking anything away from Saturday’s trip south of the river.

Bradford City v Salford City

BRADFORD CITY to win - 4/6

Bradford City ended last season in excellent form, winning six and drawing one of their last seven league games and the Bantams started this season in a similar manner, winning 2-1 away at much-fancied MK Dons.

Having claimed the scalp of title favourites MK Dons, Graham Alexander will want to get one over another of his former clubs on Saturday as the Bradford City boss goes up against a Salford City side where he spent over two years in charge. Salford City lost 2-0 at home to Port Vale on the opening weekend of the season and based on that performance, the club owned by the Class of ‘92 are in for a long season.

Newport County v Doncaster Rovers

DONCASTER ROVERS to win - 3/4

Like Bradford City, Doncaster Rovers resumed last season’s red-hot form by taking all three points on the opening weekend. Grant McCann’s side earned a convincing 4-1 win over Accrington Stanley to reaffirm their position as one of League Two’s title favourites. Doncaster Rovers are now unbeaten in 13 league games, winning eleven and drawing two.

On Saturday, Doncaster Rovers travel to a Newport County side enduring a highly contrasting spell having extended their record to nine straight league games with a last-gasp defeat at Cheltenham Town. The Exiles may find themselves in a relegation scrap this season and seem unlikely to take anything out of Saturday’s fixture.
