Here at betting.bet we’ll cover the evening’s action by providing the latest team news, match insights and betting tips as well as the best pre-match odds
The Premier League returns on Friday as Manchester United host Fulham at Old Trafford in the first Premier League fixture of the new season. As we look ahead to the much-anticipated return of the English top-flight, here at betting.bet we’ll cover the evening’s action by providing the latest team news, match insights and betting tips as well as the best pre-match football odds from our partners at Ladbrokes.
Team News
There could be several new faces in action on Friday as both sides have been relatively busy in the summer transfer window. Luke Shaw has joined Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund on the treatment table which could mean a debut for new signing Noussair Mazraoui. Mazraoui joined along with Matthijs de Ligt in a double transfer from Bayern Munich and Dutchman de Ligt could also earn a first start on Friday.
Further up the pitch, Alejandro Garnacho could be in line to start after impressing off the bench in last weekend’s Community Shield.
Fulham boss Marco Silva boasts a clean bill of health ahead of the new season with summer signings Emile Smith Rowe and Jorge Cuenca tipped for a first competitive start. Ryan Sessegnon could also make a second debut for the club but he’s likely to start amongst the substitutes.
Manchester United v Fulham: Head-to-Head
Fulham won the corresponding fixture last season, claiming a shock 2-1 win at Old Trafford in February. Harry Maguire had cancelled out Calvin Bassey’s opener before Alex Iwobi snatched all three points in the 97th minute.
Prior to that Fulham win, Manchester United had gone 18 matches without defeat against Fulham.
Betting Tips
We tipped Marcus Rashford as a potential match winner in our Community Shield preview and whilst the Manchester United forward was extremely wasteful in front of goal last Saturday, he’s certainly worth another chance on Friday. Rashford is priced at 17/10 to score at any time or 11/2 to score first.
Manchester United started last season with four defeats in their first seven league games whilst twelve months earlier they’d kicked off with back-to-back losses against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. Manager Erik ten Hag will want to stage this season on the front foot and we’re therefore tipping to hosts to take all three points on Friday.
There are still question marks around the Manchester United defence, especially with continued injury concerns over Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. However the return to fitness of Lisandro Martinez cannot be underestimated and he could form a formidable partnership with Matthijs de Ligt at the heart of the Manchester United defence. A clean sheet would be the perfect way to answer any questions over the Red Devils’ defensive frailties. Manchester United to win to nil is certainly overpriced at 2/1.
