Monday Night Football: 2024/25 Season Predictions
Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville give their 2024/25 season predictions
The first week of the new Premier League season is over and in keeping with tradition, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher joined Dave Jones on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show to give their predictions for the season ahead. Offering predictions on everything from title winners to relegation candidates, the pundits could agree on very little - emphasising the unpredictability of this season’s Premier League.
As we absorb all the tips and opinions of both Neville and Carragher, here at betting.bet will cross-reference their picks with the latest odds courtesy of our betting partners at William Hill.

Title Winners
First up, Neville and Carragher discussed the title race and the duo were in disagreement over which team will lift the Premier League title next summer. Carragher has tipped Manchester City to win a fifth successive title whilst for the second season in a row, Gary Neville has backed Arsenal to end their 20-year wait to be crowned Premier League champions. Neville did concede that Carra may be correct and that Manchester City are more than capable of retaining their title but insists that Arsenal are “getting closer” and this could be their year. Neville did suggest that the champions could be decided by which of Arsenal and Manchester City has more luck with injuries over the course of the season.
Following a deserved 2-0 away at Chelsea on the opening weekend Manchester City remain title favourites at 11/10 whilst Arsenal have shortened into 7/4 following their routine 2-0 win at home to Wolves. Liverpool round off the top three in the betting at 13/2.
2nd - 4th
Whilst offering a difference of opinion on their title winners both Neville and Carragher are in agreement that Manchester City and Arsenal will occupy the top two positions. However, the rest of their top four are highly contrasting. Whilst Carragher has gone with the bookies and opted for his old club Liverpool to finish third ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth, Neville has Manchester United in third and big-spending Chelsea in fourth position. Liverpool are currently 2/5 with William Hill to finish in the top four, which makes Neville’s predictions bold to say the least!
Neville’s reason for omitting Spurs from his top four was cited at an apparent lack of options during the Monday evening draw at Leicester City whilst he believes the loss of Jurgen Klopp will harm Liverpool’s top four prospects.

Relegation
Both Carragher and Neville expect the three promoted sides to struggle this season. Gary Neville agrees with the bookies that we’ll see a clean sweep of newly-promoted sides making an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship whilst Jamie Carragher believes Ipswich Town will survive, tipping Southampton, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest for relegation.
Neville has voiced his concerns regarding the strategy of clubs recently promoted from the Championship. He suggested clubs coming up from the Championship are now using the riches of the Premier League as a “fund” claiming his belief that clubs are using the money is “to rebuild their finances, to rebuild the stadium, to use the money actually rather than blowing it all on the playing squad”.

Top Scorer
One area where Neville and Carragher were unanimous was in picking Erling Haaland as the Premier League’s top scorer. The Norwegian has won the Golden Boot in successive seasons and made a goal-scoring start to the season when opening the scoring at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Haaland is the 8/13 favourite with William Hill to finish as the Premier League’s top goal scorer, followed by Mohamed Salah (9/1) in what seems to be nothing more than a two-horse race.
