UEFA Nations League Preview - Betting Tips & Odds
UEFA Nations League Preview - Betting Tips & Odds

The new domestic season is barely a month old and Europe’s major football leagues take a back seat this weekend as the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League gets underway. Such is the structure of the tournament, matches played throughout Europe should be finely balanced which means from a betting perspective there is plenty of value to be found. Here at betting.bet we’ve scanned over the first round of matches and provide exclusive UEFA Nations League betting tips as well as the latest international football odds from our betting partners at BetVictor.

UEFA Nations League Acca Odds - 5/1

  • France to win (vs. Italy)
  • Norway to win (vs. Kazakhstan)
  • England to win (vs. Republic Of Ireland)
  • Moldova to win (vs. Malta)
  • Portugal to win (vs. Scotland)

France v Italy

France to win - 11/20

France kick off their campaign with back-to-back home matches against Italy and Belgium and with two nations progressing to the quarter-final in the newly revamped tournament, Les Bleus could put one foot in next year’s knockout stage with maximum points this weekend. The 2021 winners will prove a popular selection in the betting for both fixtures but we’re opting for a France win versus Italy rather than Belgium.

Italy finished third in the last Nations League tournament but the Azzurri are very much on the decline in recent years. Luciano Spalletti remains in charge despite a rather underwhelming European Championship defence that saw them win just one of their four matches.

Kylian Mbappe will inevitably prove popular in the various goalscorer markets at the weekend but the value pick could be one of his former Paris Saint-Germain teammates. 22-year-old Bradley Barcola is one of the hottest young talents in Europe and he’s flown out of the traps this season with four goals in three Ligue 1 matches. Barcola is expected to start against Italy and is superb value at 7/4 to score at any time.

Kazakhstan v Norway

Norway to win - 4/11

A Norway squad that boasts the likes of Erling Haaland, Alexander Sorloth and Martin Odegaard should be qualifying for major tournaments and they will still be hurting after missing out on a place at Euro 2024. That disappointment will be a key motivator throughout the Nations League campaign and we fully expect the Norwegians to clinch a top two finish in Group 3. Norway host Austria in Oslo on Monday but before that they take on a Kazakhstan side coming into the weekend on the back of four straight defeats. Norway should not take Kazakhstan lightly but we are tipping them to earn all three points.

Erling Haaland is in phenomenal scoring form and could prove the difference in Almaty on Friday evening. The Manchester City forward is 2/1 to score two or more against Kazakhstan.

Republic Of Ireland v England

England to win - 4/9

England begin life after Gareth Southgate on Saturday eyeing a return to League A of the Nations League. Interim boss Lee Carsley takes charge of England for the first time when they take on Republic Of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium. The Three Lions travel to Dublin without the likes of Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden but should still have enough firepower to take all three points.

None of the Irish squad have hit double-figures for international goals and that obvious lack of firepower could make Saturday a fairly routine outing for England despite the anticipated hostile Aviva Stadium crowd. In the absence of Bellingham, Palmer and Foden, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka will prove key for England and the 23-year-old is good value at 85/40 to score at any time.

Moldova v Malta

Moldova to win - 4/6

Moldova are undoubtedly the strongest side in Group D2 of the Nations League and should earn promotion ahead of Malta and Andorra with relative ease. Despite being ranked 152nd in the latest FIFA rankings, Moldova came close to qualifying for Euro 2024 and went unbeaten throughout their group, earning draws against Czech Republic and Albania whilst also taking four points from two matches against Poland. Malta are several levels below that standard and Moldova should make light work of their opposition on Saturday.

Portugal v Scotland

Portugal to win - 2/11

Steve Clarke’s side follow up their home tie against Poland with a daunting trip to Lisbon where they’ll meet 2019 winners Portugal. Scotland earned promotion to League A of the Nations League having topped their group ahead of Ukraine, Republic Of Ireland and Armenia however the Tartan Army’s stay at the top table of European football may be short lived. Scotland are the bookies’ favourites to be relegated from Group A1 but their opening match at home to Poland could prove decisive.

Providing we see a more cohesive Portugal than the one we saw in Germany over the summer, they could be real dark horses to win a second Nations League title. The current Portugal squad boasts one of the strongest squads in world football with household names such as Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota, Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leao and of course Cristiano Ronaldo set to star in Lisbon.

An underwhelming Euro 2024 campaign which saw them fail to score in three successive matches has left a question mark over the position of Cristiano Ronaldo as his nation’s talisman however two goals in two matches in this season’s Saudi Pro League will probably be enough the see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner start on Sunday.
