Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal: Match Preview, Betting Tips & Odds

The return of the Premier League features ten mouth-watering fixtures this weekend and the standout fixture undoubtedly comes from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday when Spurs host fierce rivals Arsenal in the season’s first North London derby. As we look ahead to a fixture that almost always lives up to its billing, here at betting.bet we’ll provide the latest team news, exclusive betting tips and the latest match odds from our betting partners at William Hill.

Form

Spurs are rooted in mid-table with four points from their first three matches of the new Premier League season. Ange Postecoglu kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw at newly-promoted Leicester City before earning a convincing 4-0 win at home to Everton. Just before the international break, Spurs lost 2-1 at Newcastle United and head into the weekend in tenth position.

Arsenal are six places and three points better off despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton & Hove Albion last time out. The Gunners started the season with back-to-back 2-0 wins against Wolves and Aston Villa and are currently two points off top having earned seven points in three games so far.

Team News

Richarlison remains sidelined for Spurs following an injury sustained in training last month. Ange Postecoglu will however hope to have both Dominic Solanke and Micky Van de Ven available for the visit of Arsenal. Both players sat out the recent international break following injuries sustained in the opening weeks of the new season but are expected to return to the Spurs starting XI.

Arsenal have been rocked by the news that captain Martin Odegaard will miss the next three weeks due to any injury sustained on international duty with Norway. Odegaard was not the only Arsenal player to pick up an injury during the international break with both Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori set to miss Sunday’s North London derby. The crocked trio will be joined on the sidelines by Declan Rice for the trip to Spurs after his red card in the draw against Brighton.

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal: Head-to-Head

The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 3-2 win for the Gunners. Arsenal raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to first-half goals from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz as well as a Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg own-goal. Spurs ensured a nervy finish by pulling two goals back through Cristian Romero and Heung-min Son but they are now winless in four matches against the biggest rivals.

Arsenal have had the upperhand in recent North London derbies, winning five of the last seven. Spurs’ only win during that run came at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in May 2022.

Betting Tips

Last season’s two league fixtures between these rivals produced a total of nine goals with both sides scoring at least two goals in each game. Both teams to score is available at 8/15 whilst over 2.5 match goals is excellent value at 4/7.

Often full of drama, the North London derby has historically produced more penalties than any other Premier League fixture. William Hill are offering excellent odds of 11/8 for a penalty kick to be awarded on Sunday. If a penalty is awarded to the away side then spotkick duties may fall on the shoulders of Italian international Jorginho (if selected). The penalty specialist could therefore be a very shrewd bet at 13/2 to score at any time on Sunday.

Jorginho is not the only Arsenal fringe player that could prove a wise selection in Sunday’s goalscorer markets. In the absence of Martin Odegaard, summer signing Raheem Sterling could be deployed as a ‘false nine’. The 29-year-old is priced at 7/1 to score first or 5/2 to score at any time against Spurs.

If we get the fiery encounter we’re anticipating at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium there are a couple of real standout options in the red/yellow card markets. Rodrigo Bentancur has been booked in two of Spurs’ three Premier League games so far this season and the Uruguayan is priced at 9/5 to be carded on Sunday. Perhaps quite surprisingly, only three players received more yellow cards than Kai Havertz in the Premier League last season. The German was booked on 11 occasions during the 2023/24 Premier League campaign so has to be considered at 5/2 to be booked on Sunday.
