EFL Acca Odds - 54.5/1

  • Blackburn Rovers to win (11/10)
  • Sunderland to win (8/11)
  • Stockport County to win (7/10)
  • Barnsley to win (5/4)
  • Newport County to win (3/1)

Blackburn Rovers v Bristol City

Blackburn Rovers to win - 11/10

Having played more than half an hour with ten men, Blackburn Rovers will take huge encouragement from their 1-1 draw away at fierce rivals and title favourites Burnley before the international break and we’re backing John Eustace’s side to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign when Bristol City visit Ewood Park. Blackburn Rovers have won both home league games played so far this season, taking maximum points from games against Derby County (4-2) and Oxford United (2-1).

Bristol City’s own solid start to the season unravelled last time out as they were soundly beaten 3-0 at Derby County. The Robins have an excellent recent record against Blackburn Rovers and ran out 5-0 winners when the sides met in April but we’re backing Saturday’s host to avenge that loss.

Bristol City are without a competitive clean sheet since April while both teams have scored in all six matches involving Blackburn Rovers in all competitions this season - expect goals at Ewood Park!

Plymouth Argyle v Sunderland

Sunderland to win - 8/11

Sunderland make the 700 mile trip south to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday boasting the Championship’s only 100% record and given Plymouth’s underwhelming start to life under Wayne Rooney, we are expecting the Black Cats to extend that run to a perfect five wins out of five. Sunderland have already defeated Cardiff City and Portsmouth on the road this season whilst Plymouth Argyle have taken just one point from two home league games against Hull City (1-1) and Stoke City (0-1).

A late own-goal against Portsmouth ended Sunderland’s run of three straight clean sheets but their defence may have a relatively quiet afternoon against a Plymouth Argyle side with the lowest xG in the Championship.

Crawley Town v Stockport County

Stockport County to win - 7/10

There are only three sides in League One that remain unbeaten heading into the weekend and whilst two of those meet on Sunday when Birmingham City host Wrexham at St Andrews, Stockport County face a very winnable trip to a Crawley Town side that have slumped to back-to-back losses against Wigan Athletic (1-0) and Barnsley (3-0).

Crawley Town never looked like getting anything from their home defeat against Barnsley and that poor performance is not ideal preparation for the visit of one of the division’s most in-form sides. Stockport County’s 100% record ended in a 1-1 draw at Mansfield Town last time out but a big win on Saturday will be enough to take them back to the top of the table, for 24 hours at least.

Stevenage v Barnsley

Barnsley to win - 5/4

Another League One promotion contender tipped to win on the road this weekend are Barnsley. The Tykes lost at home to Mansfield on the opening weekend of the season but have since bounced back to take ten points from four matches. Barnsley have won both away league games played so far this season and were impressive when ending Crawley Town’s five-month unbeaten home league record last time out.

Saturday’s hosts, Stevenage have gone the opposite way to Barnsley taking just one point from three matches since winning at home to Shrewsbury Town on the opening weekend of the season. Stevenage slumped to a 1-0 home defeat to Lincoln City last time out in a match of very few chances.

Swindon Town v Newport County

Newport County to win - 3/1

Newport County’s excellent recent form came to an abrupt end last time out as they were on the receiving end of a shock 4-1 defeat at home to Port Vale. The Exiles had put together a run of three straight wins against Doncaster Rovers, Accrington Stanley and Morecambe and we’re tipping the side from South Wales to bounce back when they make the relatively short trip down the M4 on Saturday.

Hosts Swindon Town are winless in the league this season, drawing three and losing two of their five matches so far. The Robins have lost both home league games played this season and manager Mark Kennedy is already under-pressure at the City Ground. An away win could be on the cards here.
