Team News
Manchester United have no new injury concerns but remain without the likes of Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro and Victor Lindelof. Eyes will be on Erik ten Hag’s team selection on Sunday with Marcus Rashford dropped for the draw at Crystal Palace despite finding some form in front of goal in recent weeks.
Spurs are sweating on the fitness of Son Heung-min after the 32-year-old limped out of their 3-0 win over Qarabag on Thursday with a hamstring injury. Richarlison remains a long-term absentee for Ange Postecoglu’s side.
Form
Only goal difference separates these two sides ahead of the weekend’s fixture with both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur producing an underwhelming start to the new campaign with seven points from five matches. Spurs came from behind to defeat Brentford 3-1 last weekend whilst Manchester United were unlucky to only take a point from Selhurst Park in a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.
Both sides were in European action during the week but whilst Spurs overcame an early red card to defeat Qarabag 3-0 on Thursday evening, Manchester United limped to a 1-1 draw at home to Twente just 24 hours earlier.
Dominic Solanke has scored in successive matches for Spurs whilst Brennan Johnson has scored in three straight games thanks to goals against Coventry City, Brentford and Qarabag. Marcus Rashofrd scored three goals in two matches against Southampton and Barnsley before being dropped for the goalless draw at Crystal Palace.
Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur: Head-to-Head
Tottenham Hotspur are unbeaten in three matches against Manchester United however they have not won at Old Trafford since winning 6-1 under Jose Mourinho in October 2020. Each of the last two fixtures contested between the sides at the Theatre Of Dreams have ended 2-2. Manchester United twice went ahead in last season's draw through Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford but were pegged back by goals from Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentancur.
Betting Tips
Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur is a standout fixture not just for fans of both clubs but for neutrals also. This fixture often produces thrilling encounters with five of the last six ties at Old Trafford including over 2.5 match goals. Those six matches have produced an average of exactly 4 goals per game making over 2.5 match goals a must if betting on this fixture. Coral are offering 4/9 on over 2.5 match goals or 2/5 for both teams to score.
Brennan Johnson has scored in three straight matches but the main attacking threat for Spurs on Sunday is likely to be £65m summer signing Dominic Solanke. Solanke is starting to find his feet at Spurs and has scored in back-to-back matches. Solanke scored home and away against Manchester United for AFC Bournemouth last season and is priced generously at 13/8 to score at any time on Sunday.
At the other end of the pitch, Marcus Rashford will hope to retain a place in the Manchester United starting XI having started amongst the substitutes in his side’s last league game. Rashford had gone six months without a competitive goal but has scored three goals in his last three starts and looks good value at 21/10 to score at any time or 7/1 to score first.
As the Premier League’s referees continue to clamp down on dissent and time wasting, the yellow and red card markets have become a market of superb betting value. Over 4.5 cards looks solid at 7/10 whilst there are plenty of intriguing options in the booking market. There are only fourteen players to have already picked up three yellow cards in the Premier League this season and two of these go toe-to-toe in central midfield on Sunday. Both Kobbie Mainoo and Rodrigo Bentancur should be considered at 17/4 and 19/10 respectively to be carded
