EFL Acca - Saturday Special (5th October)
Coventry City, West Bromwich Albion, Exeter City, Wrexham & Fleetwood Town to win - 15/1
There is another action-packed weekend of domestic football ahead of us this weekend with fixtures throughout the English Football League. The action gets underway with arguably the biggest fixture of the weekend as table-topping Sunderland host Leeds United in the Championship on Friday evening. However, there are now fewer than 33 matches taking place throughout the EFL on Saturday and this is the focus of our attention for this weekend’s EFL Acca tips.
Here at betting.bet, our resident tipsters have cast their expert eyes over Saturday’s matches in the Championship, League One and League Two and produced what could prove to be a very lucrative five-fold Acca bet. This weekend's football betting tips include odds from our partners at BetMGM.
EFL Acca Odds - 15/1
- Coventry City to win (23/25)
- West Bromwich Albion to win (41/50)
- Exeter City to win (3/4)
- Wrexham to win (11/20)
- Fleetwood Town to win (7/10)
Coventry City v Sheffield Wednesday
Coventry City to win - 23/25
Coventry City produced a shock win over previously-unbeaten Blackburn Rovers in midweek and now the Sky Blues are eyeing back-to-back league wins for the first time since March when they host Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Sheffield Wednesday possess one of the division’s worst away records with just one point in four matches away from Hillsborough this season. The Owls were fortunate to escape with a draw away at Bristol City on Wednesday evening having been outplayed for large periods of the match but could unstuck against a Coventry City side finally showing signs of rediscovering the form that saw them reach the FA Cup semi-final last season.
West Bromwich Albion v Millwall
West Bromwich Albion to win - 41/50
West Bromwich Albion have slipped from first to fourth following back-to-back defeats against Sheffield Wednesday (3-2) and Middlesbrough (1-0) but the Baggies will be confident of success at home to a Millwall side that have failed to win any of their four away league games so far this season. Neil Harris’ side became the first side to lose to struggling Cardiff City this season and on that form will be no match for West Brom at The Hawthorns.
Perhaps surprisingly Millwall are unbeaten in six matches against Saturday’s hosts and both league games contested by these sides last season ended all-square however, we’re backing the home side to get back to winning ways after a week to forget.
Exeter City v Cambridge United
Exeter City to win - 3/4
Exeter City have made a solid start to the season as they hope to build on successive mid-table finishes in League One. This season Gary Caldwell’s side sit tenth with 13 points from eight matches including seven from their last three league games. The Grecians’ only league defeat in their last seven in all competitions was a last-gasp 2-1 defeat in Steve Bruce’s first game in charge at Blackpool.
In contrast, Cambridge United have made a disastrous start to the season and already find themselves seven points from safety at the bottom of League One. Just one point in eight matches has left manager Garry Monk fighting for his job and Saturday’s trip to St James Park could be one more nail in the Monk coffin.
Wrexham v Northampton Town
Wrexham to win - 11/20
Incredibly, three of the top five positions in League One are currently occupied by sides promoted from League Two last season and of the trio, we’re backing Wrexham to keep up that excellent start to life back in the third tier this weekend. Wrexham will welcome a return to the Racecourse on Saturday after taking just one point from two away league games over the past week. Wrexham drew 0-0 at Leyton Orient last weekend before going down 1-0 at Stevenage on Tuesday evening however Phil Parkinson’s side remain second in League One thanks in no small part to a perfect four wins from four at home in the league this season.
Northampton Town are Saturday’s visitors to North Wales and do so on the back of two straight defeats. The Cobblers have won just one of their past six matches and are just one point above the relegation zone.
Fleetwood Town v Bromley
Fleetwood Town to win - 7/10
Fleetwood Town are one League Two’s most in-form sides with ten points from their last four matches seeing them rise up to sixth in the table. Tuesday’s 6-2 win over high-flying Walsall was particularly impressive and has certainly cemented their position as one of the bookies’ favourites for promotion this season.
Fleetwood Town are unbeaten at Highbury this season and on Saturday, Bromley make the long trip north on the back of nine games without a win in all competitions. Bromley started the season with successive 2-0 wins over Harrogate and AFC Wimbledon but have failed to win or keep a clean sheet in any of their subsequent nine matches - including seven in League Two.
These two sides have never previously met in a league game at any level with their only previous encounter a 3-0 Fleetwood Town win in the FA Cup first round back in 2012.
