Two under-pressure managers meet at the London Stadium on Sunday as Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham United host Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in a crucial Premier League fixture. Here at betting.bet we’ll preview this huge English top-flight fixture, providing the latest team news, match insights, expert opinions and betting tips as well as the latest odds from our partners at Interbet.

Form

West Ham United endured a torrid time in North London last weekend, finishing with ten men when on the receiving end of a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The Hammers are languishing in 15th in the Premier League table with just two wins and eight points from their first eight league games under Julen Lopetegui.

Premier League highlights: Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 West Ham United

Manchester United’s league form has not been much better with the Red Devils positioned 12th with eleven points in eight league games. Manchester United won 2-1 last weekend at home to Brentford to end a run of three league games without a win but stuttered again on Thursday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Fenerbahce in the Europa League. Erik ten Hag’s under-pressure side have now won just one of their last six matches in all competitions.

Premier League Sack Race

Whilst Southampton’s Russell Martin remains the odds-on favourite to face the sack, there are several other Premier League managers just a few poor results away from becoming unemployed. Julen Lopetegui and Erik ten Hag are certainly amongst the list of managers looking increasingly vulnerable and at 8/1 and 11/4 respectively, whichever manager loses at the weekend could prove excellent value at those prices. Below are the latest odds for the next Premier League manager to leave their post.

Team News

Mohamed Kudus will miss Sunday’s fixture as he begins a three-game suspension following his red card at Spurs last weekend. Niclas Fullkrug is also not yet ready to return due to a calf injury that has kept him out of West Ham United’s last five league games.

Manchester United will be boosted by the return of captain Bruno Fernandes after he sat out the midweek draw against Fenerbahce in Turkey. Antony picked up an injury against Fenerbahce and joins a growing Manchester United injury list that already includes Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro.

West Ham United v Manchester United: Head-to-Head

Manchester United won 3-0 when these sides last met with goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho (2) clinching three points for the Red Devils at Old Trafford in February. The corresponding fixture at the London Stadium last season ended 2-0 in favour of West Ham United. Goals from Jarrod Bowen and Mohamed Kudus were on the scoresheet that day, handing West Ham United a second successive home league win against Sunday’s visitors.

Betting Tips

Only the Premier League’s bottom four clubs have scored fewer goals than Manchester United (9) in the Premier League this season whilst their away form is particularly poor with just one win and four goals scored in four away league games so far. West Ham United have won just one of four home league games with four of their six goals scored coming in one game against Ipswich Town. We’re expecting a cagey affair in East London and under 2.5 match goals looks like the bet of the day at 11/8.

Only Chelsea have received more yellow cards than Manchester United in the league this season however their two worst offenders (Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire) are both absent at the weekend. West Ham United have actually committed more fouls than other side in the league this season and the Hammers look overpriced at 7/4 to end the match with the most booking points.

When looking for a potential goalscorer, it is slim pickings at the London Stadium on Sunday. Alejandro Garnacho is the only Manchester United player to have scored more than one goal in the Premier League this season and given that he was on target in Manchester United's last league game and scored a brace when the sides last met, he is the sensible option as far as picking a goalscorer for the away team goes. If Garnacho starts on Sunday, he is worth considering at 21/10 in the anytime scorer market.

Jarrod Bowen scored the opening goal of this fixture last season and was also on target in West Ham United’s last home league game - a 4-1 win versus Ipswich Town. Bowen is priced at 2/1 to score at any time. Given that goals are likely to be at a premium on Sunday, backing Garnacho or Bowen to score first may offer better value for money than opting for the any time scorer bet. The duo are currently available at 15/2 or 13/2 respectively.
