UEFA Champions League Acca Odds - 17/2

  • Real Madrid to win (7/5)
  • PSV Eindhoven to win (20/21)
  • Paris Saint-Germain to win (3/10)
  • Benfica to win (11/20)

Atalanta v Real Madrid

Real Madrid to win - 7/5

Atalanta recorded a 2-1 win over Milan on Friday evening to move into first position in Serie A whilst a superb start to the season also sees them sat fifth in the UEFA Champions League as one of only three sides still unbeaten through the first five rounds of matches. Yet despite their excellent form both domestically and in Europe, we’re actually anticipating a first Champions League defeat for Atalanta on Tuesday.

Visiting the Stadio di Bergamo this week are fifteen-time European champions Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are far from assured of a place in the knockout stage as they head into matchday six in 24th position with three defeats from their first five matches. Real Madrid exiting at the group stage seems inconceivable and we’re tipping them to build on Saturday’s convincing 3-0 La Liga win away at Girona.

Brest v PSV Eindhoven

PSV Eindhoven to win - 20/21

Brest were one of the surprise packages last season as they achieved a third place finish in Ligue 1 to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history. The French minnows have continued to punch above their weight in the Champions League, winning three of their first five matches. However, you could argue that matches against Sturm Graz, Red Bull Salzburg and Sparta Prague are amongst the more winnable of Champions League ties and we cannot ignore the fact that Brest currently sit eleventh in Ligue 1 having lost four of their last five league games.

A home tie against PSV Eindhoven could prove a difficult assignment for Brest with the Dutch side showing real improvement in the past couple of game weeks. PSV have won back-to-back Champions League games against Girona (4-0) and Shakhtar Donetsk (3-2) whilst they also sit top of the Eredivisie table with 14 wins in 15 matches so far. PSV romped to a 6-1 league win over Twente on Friday evening whilst they held Paris Saint-Germain to a 1-1 draw in their last Champions League away fixture. The Dutch side look every bit the winner of this tie.

Red Bull Salzburg v Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain to win - 3/10

Red Bull Salzburg were on the receiving end of a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of German champions Bayer Leverkusen in their last Champions League game and sit on the verge of elimination with four defeats from their first five matches. The Austrian side have slipped to fifth in their domestic league with just one win in their last seven Austrian Football Bundesliga matches. On Tuesday they face the daunting task of trying to keep out a Paris Saint-Germain side desperate to climb up the Champions League table.

The French giants lost 1-0 at Bayern Munich last time out and are now facing a premature elimination as they sit outside of the play-off places in 25th position. You could argue that PSG have had as tough a run of Champions League fixtures as any of the other 35 teams involved and they are certainly capable of dispatching of Red Bull Salzburg. In Ligue 1, PSG have won ten and drawn four of their fourteen matches so far. If they can replicate their domestic form in the Champions League, they will win with ease in Austria.

Benfica v Bologna

Benfica to win - 11/20

Benfica have quietly asserted themselves as one of European football’s dark horses this season by putting together a string of impressive performances both domestically and in Europe. In the Primeira Liga, Benfica are unbeaten in the league since the opening weekend of the season and have won eight straight league games, scoring 26 goals in the process. A 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid on matchday two is certainly one of the best team performances in this season’s competition so far whilst a 3-2 win away at Monaco last time out has moved the Portuguese side to within a single point of the top eight.

In contrast, Bologna are enduring a somewhat forgettable debut season in the Champions League and sit on the brink of elimination with just one point from their first five matches. Struggling to recover from a series of significant summer departures both on and off the pitch, Bologna are currently 33rd out of 36 in the Champions League table and eighth in Serie A, twelve points adrift of leaders Atalanta.
