Form

Wolves’ hopes of survival were dealt a hammer blow on Monday evening as they went down to a 2-1 defeat away at West Ham United. Gary O’Neil’s side have now lost three successive league games and have picked up just nine points from their first fifteen games of the season. Wolves possess the worst defensive record in the Premier League, conceding 38 goals already this season whilst there are only seven clubs to have scored more than them.

Ipswich Town lost 2-1 at home to AFC Bournemouth last weekend and like Wolves, the Tractor Boys have also taken just nine points from fifteen games and head to Molineux on the back of three straight defeats. Ipswich Town have kept just one clean sheet all season whilst only Southampton have scored fewer goals in the league.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ipswich Town: Head-to-Head

Ipswich Town’s hiatus from the English top-flight means these sides have never contested a Premier League game with their last top-flight league game coming in the old First Division back in 1984. The last time these sides met in the league at any level was back in 2017/18 when Wolves completed a league double in the Championship with back-to-back 1-0 wins. They did however meet in a League Cup third round tie last season where Ipswich Town ran out 3-2 winners.

Betting Tips

Both Wolves and Ipswich Town are desperately hoping to end a run of three straight defeats and Saturday’s meeting is a game neither side dare to lose. Everything seems to point to a draw at Molineux and this is priced generously at 27/10.

Jorgen Strand Larsen scored twice in Wolves’ last home league game and has now netted four goals in Wolves’ last four league games at Molineux. The Norwegian international is priced at 9/2 to score first or 5/4 to score at any time.

Ten of Wolves’ last thirteen goals have been scored in the second half of matches whilst Ipswich Town have taken the lead in four of the last five games that they have scored in. Ipswich Town to be leading at half-time looks overpriced at 16/5 whilst Ipswich Town to score the game’s first goal also looks solid value at 7/5.

If the visitors are to net first on Saturday then Liam Delap would prove the obvious selection at 13/2 to score the game’s opening goal however, Sammie Szmodics could prove the real value in this market. The Republic of Ireland international has three Premier League goals to his name with all three scored away from home. Last season’s Sky Bet Championship top goalscorer finally looks to be finding his feet in the Premier League and at 15/2 to score first, Szmodics is worth real consideration whilst he is also extremely backable at 23/10 to score at any time.
