Snooker’s elite will descend on Alexandra Palace next week for the 2025 Masters. As both the second longest-running professional snooker tournament in the world and the second leg of snooker’s Triple Crown, The Masters remains one of the most prestigious events on the pro snooker circuit. Here at betting.bet we’ll preview this year’s tournament, providing generous free bet offers, exclusive betting tips and insights as well as the latest tournament odds from our partners at QuinnBet.
About The Masters
The Masters was established back in 1975 and has been held every year since. Along with the UK Championship and the World Championship the tournament makes up one third of snooker’s Triple Crown. The format of the tournament is a seeded knockout competition featuring the world’s 16 highest-ranked players. The Masters champion of the previous year is always confirmed as the first seed with the reigning world champion seeded second. The remaining 14 spots are determined by world ranking positions.
Where To Watch The 2025 Masters
The 2025 Johnstone’s Paint Masters will be played at Alexandra Palace in London between the 12th and 19th of January. The entire tournament will be broadcast live on the BBC and can also be streamed via BBC iPlayer and the BBC website. Alternative coverage is available on Eurosport and discovery+ (subject to a £6.99 per month subscription).
O’Sullivan Withdraws
Unfortunately defending champion and the bookies’ red-hot favourite will not feature at Ally Pally this month after Ronnie O’Sullivan withdrew from the competition on medical grounds. O’Sullivan has been replaced in the competition by two-time winner Neil Robertson who will now face John Higgins in round one.
Ronnie O’Sullivan has become synonymous with The Masters and in 2024 he won a record eighth Masters title. O’Sullivan holds the record as both the youngest and oldest winner of the competition with 29 years between win number one (1995) and win number eight (2024).
Market Leaders
In the absence of Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump is now a red-hot favourite to claim a third Masters title. Trump arrives at Alexandra Palace in excellent form having won the UK Championship in York last month. Trump has also secured success in both the Shanghai Masters and Saudi Arabia Masters this season and is a deserved market leader. In a repeat of the UK Championship final, Trump will take on Barry Hawkins in round one.
Reigning world champion Kyren Wilson has already won two ranking tournaments this season with success in both the Xi’an Grand Prix and Northern Ireland Open. Wilson has also reached the semi-final of the UK Championship as well as the quarter-final of the International Championship, Champion of Champions and Riyadh Season Championship. Wilson will be heavy favourite against Zhang Anda in round one whilst you would also fancy him against the winner of Luca Brecel versus Chris Wakelin in the quarter-final but a semi-final showdown with Judd Trump looks too tough to call.
The bottom half of the draw certainly looks the trickier half with Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson on a semi-final collision course. This could open the door for in-form Mark Allen to reach a first Masters final since winning the competition in 2018. The 38-year-old world number four won the Riyadh Season Championship thanks to wins over Mark Selby, Ronnie O’Sullivan and Luca Brecel. Prior to winning in Riyadh last month Allen had enjoyed a solid season without winning any major tournament. Mark Allen has been a losing semi-finalist in the British Open, UK Championship, Scottish Open and the Champion of Champions already this season but could capitalise on the withdrawal of top seed Ronnie O’Sullivan.
