Where To Watch Dublin Racing Festival Day Two
Racing TV will offer live coverage of all eight races at Leopardstown on Sunday. The opening race of the afternoon will get underway at 12:40 with the final race scheduled for 16:25. ITV’s ITV Racing show will also include coverage of the Irish Champion Hurdle.
3:20 - Irish Champion Hurdle
The Grade 1 Irish Champion Hurdle is raced over two miles with this year’s five entries set to tackle nine fences in all. The contest was established back in 1950 and trainer Willie Mullins has won a record eight renewals of the race, including five with Hurricane Fly between 2011 and 2015 - also a record.
This year’s Irish Champion Hurdle is shaping up to be the race of the weekend with Willie Mullins’ stable stars Lossiemouth and State Man set to go head-to-head in Sunday’s feature race. State Man has won the Irish Champion Hurdle in each of the past two years but Lossiemouth has emerged as a real star two-miler. State Man was well-beaten by Brighterdaysahead in the Neville Hotels Hurdle here at Leopardstown in December but he does have an excellent record at Leopardstown, winning four times over C&D.
Leading mare Lossiemouth is set to go off as the odds-on favourite despite failing to lay a glove on Constitution Hill in the Ladbrokes Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day. Lossiemouth has nine wins and two seconds in her previous eleven runs including no fewer than five Grade 1 wins. Paul Townend has opted to saddle State Man over Lossiemouth which could be telling.
Irish Champion Hurdle | Race Odds |
---|---|
Lossiemouth | 8/11 |
State Man | 5/4 |
Winter Fog | 18/1 |
Daddy Long Legs | 40/1 |
Fils d'Oudairies | 66/1 |
1:10 - Ladbrokes Novice Chase
Like Lossiemouth in the Irish Champion Hurdle, Ballyburn is set to go off as the odds-on favourite for this Grade 1 contest despite getting turned over by one of Nicky Henderson’s stable stars at Kempton in December. Ballyburn finished 7 lengths off Sir Gino in the Ladbrokes Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase but now steps back up in trip on his return to Leopardstown. Ballyburn won three Grade 1 hurdle races before going chasing and is a worthy favourite for this Ladbrokes Novice Chase renewal but has something to prove after that Kempton run.
The main danger to Paul Townend on Ballyburn is stablemate Impaire Et Passe. The seven-year-old has twice found State Man too good in hurdle races at Leopardstown but he has impressed since switching to chasing this season. Impaire Et Passe won a number of Grade-level hurdle races including three Grade 1 contests and the Grade 2 bet365 Select Hurdle. His switch to chasing saw him land a beginners chase at Fairyhouse in November before landing the Faugheen Novice Chase by four lengths at Limerick in December.
Ladbrokes Novice Chase | Race Odds |
---|---|
Ballyburn | 4/5 |
Impaire Et Passe | 11/4 |
Champ Kiely | 11/2 |
Better Days Ahead | 10/1 |
Croke Park | 12/1 |
Prairie Dancer | 66/1 |
Arctic Skua | 200/1 |
