Arsenal v Real Madrid will kick off at 8pm on Tuesday 8th April in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie. Real Madrid are now four points adrift of Barcelona with eight games left to play. Atletico Madrid are just three points further back in fourth in what has turned into a thrilling three-horse race for the La Liga title.

Road To The Quarter-Final

Arsenal’s passage to the quarter-final of the Champions League has been fairly straightforward. The Gunners eased into the last-16 by finishing third in the league phase, just two points off table-topping Liverpool. In the last-16, Arsenal swept past Dutch side PSV Eindhoven with a comprehensive 9-3 aggregate win.

Real Madrid have certainly made things difficult for themselves in the Champions League. An eleventh place finish in the league stage meant a two-legged play-off against Manchester City. Madrid defeated the reigning English champions home and away to wrap up a 6-3 aggregate win only to be drawn against fierce rivals Atletico Madrid in the last-16. Leading 2-1 from the first leg, Real Madrid lost 1-0 away at Atletico Madrid in the second leg but clinched their spot in the quarter-finals with a 4-2 penalty shootout win.

Arsenal v Real Madrid: Head-to-Head

Arsenal and Real Madrid have only ever met twice before, contesting a two-legged tie at the same stage of the 2005/06 Champions League. A 0-0 draw at Highbury was preceded by a 1-0 Arsenal win at the Santiago Bernabeu thanks to a second-half Thierry Henry goal. Arsenal would go on to lose to Barcelona in the final back in 2006 and have only reached the semi-final of the competition on one occasion since then.

As for picking out a goalscorer, Kylian Mbappe has to be considered. At the weekend the France international failed to score whilst starting a game for the first time since Real Madrid lost 1-0 to Atletico Madrid in this competition back on March 12th. However, he has netted 33 goals in 47 matches in his debut season in Madrid, including seven goals in twelve Champions League games. Mbappe is priced at 9/2 to score first or 7/4 to score at any time. Whilst the odds on both markets are rather generous, the absence of Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes is a major blow for the home side and we’re going to push our luck and tip Real Madrid forward, Mbappe to score two or more at 10/1.
