newtonabbotracing.com Mares' Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race)
MIGHTY FLEUR - 4/5
MIGHTY FLEUR, who hails from a family rich in jumping success, appears to be in excellent hands with Peter and Michael Bowen as she embarks on her hurdling career. Having placed in three bumpers throughout 2024, this daughter of Scorpion seems perfectly poised to thrive at this next stage of her journey. Merry Shuil showed promise when finishing fourth on her hurdling debut at Carlisle in February and looks set to build on that encouraging start. Meanwhile, Jokers 'N' Clowns is respected as the pick of the remainder.
4:37 Limerick
Ishka Irish Spring Water Handicap Hurdle
MY FRIEND THE WIND - 4/1
Trainer Eric McNamara is double-handed in the 2m5½f handicap hurdle, and preference is for MY FRIEND THE WIND, who teams up with his son Conor in the saddle. Although winless in 11 outings over fences, the ten-year-old has proven to be a much better performer over hurdles, boasting two victories and ten placings from 24 starts. He was well supported in the market when finishing runner-up in a pair of handicap hurdles at Ballinrobe last summer and produced a solid effort here in December. It would be disappointing if he didn’t go very close this time.

Accasion Marquees Handicap Chase
MISTYMAL - 9/4
Having scored over course and distance from just 3lb lower in October, MISTYMAL has plenty in his favour here, and a return to Hereford could help smooth out the jumping errors that have crept into his recent runs. Cave Article, who stays well and now sports cheekpieces, looks the main threat, while King Of Brazil has shown signs of a revival lately and could also have a say if handling the step back up in trip.

£30 In Free Bets With BetUK Handicap (GBBPlus Race)
SEA LEGEND - 12/1
Jim Goldie's runners on the all-weather have been in excellent form, and he looks to have acquired a well-handicapped recruit in SEA LEGEND from Donald McCain's yard. A course-and-distance winner from a mark 2lb higher, it would be no shock to see him make an immediate impact for his new stable, despite not showing his best during his short time with McCain.
5:18 Lingfield (AW)
BetMGM: It's Showtime Handicap
WOODHAY WHISPER - 5/1
Three-year-old filly WOODHAY WHISPER looks poised to get off the mark after being nudged up just 1lb following a narrow defeat at Wolverhampton on her latest appearance. The daughter of Coulsty finished strongly over 6f that day, having been slightly unlucky when short of room at a key stage late on.
Although still seeking her first win after 13 starts, she has consistently shown promise from finishing second on debut at Windsor to a close fourth at Wolverhampton in November, and again when outrunning odds of 20/1 on her penultimate run. Woodhay Whisper has demonstrated enough ability to suggest a breakthrough is imminent, and this looks a realistic opportunity for her. The Max Young-trained filly, deserving of a first success on her tenth all-weather start, arrives in good form, and if repeating her latest effort, she has every chance of getting her head in front under Hector Crouch.

Ladies Abba Evening Friday 9th May Open National Hunt Flat Race (Category 1 Elimination) (GBB Race)
SINCHI ROCA - 4/5
SINCHI ROCA impressed when easily accounting for the opposition on his sole point-to-point outing and backed that up with a comfortable success in a Taunton bumper in February. The five-year-old looks firmly on an upward curve and is fancied to overcome a 7lb penalty. Getaway Vic, who also shoulders a penalty after a striking Rules debut win at Worcester, ran with credit when finishing second back at the same track and rates the main danger. Mighty Gesture and Windsor Blue are also respected and complete the shortlist.
