The Formula One season resumes at the weekend as the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas prepares to host the United States Grand Prix. As the 19th race of a 24-race calendar, the outcome of Sunday’s United States Grand Prix could have a real bearing on the outcome of this year’s World Drivers’ Championship. Here at betting.bet we’ll preview the weekend’s action, providing insights and opinions as well as the latest odds from our partners at BetMGM.
The Season So Far
Max Verstappen heads into the final six races with a healthy 52-point lead in the World Drivers’ Championship. Verstappen raced into a considerable lead at the top of the standings with seven wins in the first ten races and currently has 331 points. Lando Norris sits second with 279 points whilst both Charles Leclerc (245 points) and Oscar Piastri (237 points) retain an outside chance of being crowned world champion.
The Constructors’ Championship also remains finely poised with just 75 points separating the top three teams. McLaren lead the way on 516 points ahead of Red Bull (475) and Ferrari (441). McLaren have achieved at least one podium finish in each of the last nine races.
2023 US Grand Prix Recap
Max Verstappen started last year’s United States Grand Prix sixth on the grid and despite struggling with brake issues throughout he battled to a fifteenth win of the season. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were both disqualified despite crossing the line in second and sixth respectively whilst Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz completed the official top three in Austin.
Betting Tips
Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris qualified first and second in last year’s United States Grand Prix and between them they have taken pole position in qualifying for each of the last six Grand Prix. Lando Norris (+100) is the bookies’ favourite to clinch pole at the weekend whilst Charles Leclerc is priced at +600.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s race, we cannot ignore Max Verstappen’s dominance at the Circuit of the Americas. Verstappen has won this Grand Prix in each of the past three years whilst the Dutchman has not been off the podium in Texas since 2017. The track is perfectly suited to Verstappen’s Red Bull and he is excellent value at +400 to win a fourth straight United States Grand Prix.
