Offer explained
extra places
The bookmaker pays each-way places beyond the industry standard, so a fourth, fifth or sixth-placed horse can still return a profit.
How it works
Each way betting normally pays a place on the first three or four runners depending on the race. Extra places widen that, paying an extra place or two on selected races. Your win part is unchanged, but the place part of the bet is paid on more finishing positions, which is where the value sits on big field handicaps.
Worked example
A 16 runner handicap pays 4 places at industry terms. Your brand offers 2 extra places. You place £10 each way at 12.00 on a horse that finishes fifth. Normally that returns nothing, here the place part pays out at a fifth of the odds, returning about £32 from your £20 total stake.
Extra places are race by race, always check the race header before betting.
Some brands pay the extra places as a free bet rather than cash.
