New Betting Sites Explained
Answers to the questions punters ask most about newly launched UK bookmakers.
What makes a good new betting site
A new bookmaker earns its place by doing something better than the established names, not just by offering a bigger welcome bonus. The strongest new sites usually stand out in at least one of these ways:
- Competitive odds: new brands often price sharply to attract customers, especially on football and racing.
- Ongoing value: regular promotions for existing customers, not just a one-off sign-up offer.
- A well-built app: fast, simple bet placement, Face ID login and modern payment options such as Apple Pay and pay by bank.
- Fair terms: clear significant terms, reasonable minimum odds and sensible expiry windows.
- Quick withdrawals: paying out promptly is one of the clearest signs a new bookmaker can be trusted.
Our expert rating scores every new site on the same criteria as established bookmakers, so you can compare them directly.
Sister sites and shared platforms
When a new betting site launches on an existing platform, it often has “sister sites”: other brands run by the same company or on the same platform.
Sister sites usually share odds, markets and account systems, and some share welcome offer restrictions. If you’ve already claimed a welcome offer at one brand on a network, you may not be eligible at another, so check the terms. On the plus side, if you like how one site works, its sister sites will feel familiar.
Our sister sites page shows the full networks.
What happens if a new betting site closes?
New brands do sometimes close or merge, usually because they haven’t attracted enough customers.
If a UK-licensed bookmaker shuts down, it has to give customers notice and let them withdraw their balances. Every licensed operator also has to tell you how well your money is protected if the business fails. The Gambling Commission requires each one to state whether customer funds are not protected, or held with medium or high protection, usually on the site’s terms or during sign-up. If that matters to you, check it before depositing large amounts with any new bookmaker.
Safer gambling at new betting sites
Every UK-licensed betting site, new or established, has to offer the same safer gambling tools.
These include deposit limits, reality checks, time-outs and self-exclusion, and every site must be part of GAMSTOP, which lets you block yourself from all UK-licensed gambling sites at once. Signing up to several new sites to claim welcome offers can make it harder to keep track of your spending, so it’s worth setting a deposit limit on each account from the start. If gambling stops being fun, free, confidential support is available from BeGambleAware.org, and you can block gambling sites with GamStop.
