Minella Hollow

Improved again when 11l third in Boyle Sports Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) at Gowran Park most recent run; effective 2m, suited by decent ground; progressive, may have more to offer and the one to beat.

    Palamon

PALAMON looks the most likely here coming from the in-form Skelton yard and looking progressive. Tanking Along is clearly a major threat being on an upward curve himself but his handicap mark has got quite tough. Marty McFly and Kahavari seem next best, the former looking the bigger danger with likely improvement to come from his seasonal debut and having been in great form over fences last term.

    Kateira

Last year’s winner KATEIRA is fancied to win this again. She isn’t the most straightforward and never got involved on her reappearance at Chepstow, but it feels like this will have been the target and if she is going to have a good day it is likely to be this one. Watamu is a danger being on the upgrade but this a step-up in class. La Conquiere ran some solid races at Graded level last year and won on her reappearance in 2025. She also looks a threat.

    Take No Chances

TAKE NO CHANCES is usually very reliable and can be forgiven a poor run on her return when probably needing a stiffer test than 2 1/2m and the run. Up to 3m here she should return to form and go well. Strong Leader won this last year and has an obvious chance despite his form falling away at the end of last season. Paggane won on the Flat at Goodwood recently, but is probably much better over fences. Lavida Adiva was consistent over hurdles up to Grade 2 level in 2025/6 but may find this a bit too big an ask.

    Pic D'orhy

PIC D’ORHY ran a belter when second in this last year and The Real Whacker won it on 2024. The pair should contend. The latter has the edge of a reasonably recent run and confirmed his wellbeing winning at Perth but preference is for Pic D’Orhy whose form last season was much the better. Hitman is talented on his day but very unreliable making Handstands third best just ahead of Twinjets, but if the favourite performs near his best they shouldn’t really trouble him.

    Race To Base

RACE TO BASE came back to form on his final start of last term after a wind operation and though on seasonal debut and a stiff enough mark could improve enough to take this. Filibustering has had a good summer but climbed the weights and was too free last time. He may settle better here of course, return to form and be a threat. Klitschko could also run well. He is back on a good mark and has been running creditably so far this season.

    Kenough

Yard has won 2 of last 10 runnings of race; green, mistakes, some headway late when 5l third in a juvenile hurdle at Punchestown most recent run; top course trainer; effective 2m, acts on good; much more to come over hurdles for top yard.

    Skerry Hill

Yard has won 5 of last 8 runnings of race; confirmed debut level, travelled, very promising again when winning a bumper at Ayr by 2l last time; effective at 2m/2m1f on heavy and good to yielding; rates a top hurdling prospect, should win this.

    Ben Hur

Too much to do after series of errors having met trouble when second beaten 2 1/4l off 124 last time, 3lb higher here; effective 2m, acts on heavy and good; progressive dual-purpose performer, big chance.

    Heart Wood

A high-class staying chase but a tricky puzzle to solve. Affordale Fury was runner-up 12 months ago, two runs before he’d go on to land the Grade 1 Savills Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas, and he could easily go one place better with him proven fresh, but it’s HEART WOOD who is the selection. He represents Henry de Bromhead, who has won the race for three of the last four seasons, and although his peak efforts until now have come over 2m4f, he is a three-time winner over 2m7f. As he’s getting older there’s a good cance he’ll stay better anyway and he rates the most likely winner. Haiti Couleurs has a good record fresh as well as the assistance of Paul Townend. Although last season ended with him struggling in both the Gold Cup and Grand National, he might be able to boss this smaller field under an aggressive ride, so rates a legitimate threat. Fleur In The Park is a second-season chaser firmly on the up and ran out a good winner on his reappearance, but a bigger danger might be Romeo Coolio, who ended a fine novice season on a down note in the Brown Advisory when clearly not himself in a first-time hood. He’s got loads of class and reappears without the headgear at a meeting his trainer owns. He does have stamina to prove at 3m, though. Banbridge, the 2024 King George winner who was runner-up in the Christmas showpiece last season as well, is highly versatile and can go well also if the ground doesn’t get soft.

    Uncle Pad

Yard has won 9 of last 10 runnings of race; scored with ease, looked very promising when 10l winner in a maiden at Ballyvodock on debut; returning from long layoff; effective at 3m in points; joined top yard, strong claims on debut.

    Jet To Vegas

Did it cosily, outclassed rivals down in grade when landing a handicap by 1 1/4l off a 4lb lower mark at Market Rasen last time; effective 2m-2m5f, acts on soft and good; Graded winner over hurdles, new mark could underestimate.

    Vanderpoel

Last year’s winner Teddy Blue returns from a high enough mark perhaps, while Martator is missing the blinkers that saw him spring a 66-1 shock in the Grand Annual when last seen. It’s VANDERPOEL who is fancied to come out on top, the season-season chaser having undergone a wind op since his seventh place finish in the Grand Annual when getting drawn into going too fast up front. He’d previously won back-to-back, including over C&D, and a mark of 141 might still underestimate him.

    Califet En Vol

Tapley is 2-2 since joining the Moores, winning a pair of small-field events, and he could go well despite facing a tougher task this time, but there might be better options in Viroflay, who was progressive in handicaps to end last season, and season-season chaser CALIFET EN VOL, who hasn’t lived up to early expectations but still has time to improve and will get his favoured conditions for this return. He’s on a nice mark potentially. Your Darling goes well fresh and likes it here so is very much considered also.

    Masterius

Converted straightforward opening when winning a bumper at Southwell by 1 1/2l last time; effective 2m, acts on good; ex-pointer, can take this on hurdles debut.

    Trustintimes

Fair effort back on Flat when fourth beaten 6l in a maiden at Nottingham latest; effective 2m on good; looks a big player back hurdling.

    White Birch

Creditable run off a long absence and after wind operation when 3/4l third in August Stakes (Listed) at Windsor; best at 10f, acts on most ground; former Group 1 winner, should come on for reappearance and big chance.
