About Bubble Up!

Pragmatic Play heads beneath the waves with Bubble Up!, a bright and cheerful underwater slot filled with colourful sea creatures, pearls and a particularly happy-looking pink octopus. There's nothing especially groundbreaking about the aquatic theme itself, but the presentation has considerably more personality than simply throwing a few fish onto the reels and hoping players take the bait.

The real focus is on Money symbols and the large Bubble Frames that can appear across the grid. Rather than the Money symbols automatically paying their displayed values, much of the anticipation comes from where a frame lands and what it manages to catch inside. Two frames can also overlap, potentially multiplying Money symbols caught in the shared area by up to 10x.

It's a simple idea visually, and that's part of its appeal. You can immediately see the Money symbols worth catching and whether the Bubble Frame has landed in the right place. There's that familiar slot frustration when something juicy appears just outside the frame, but that's also where much of Bubble Up's tension comes from.

The base game is really setting the stage for Free Spins, where Bubble Frames become guaranteed and can progressively increase in size. The bonus also introduces modifiers that change how the feature behaves, giving it considerably more depth than the rather innocent-looking cartoon octopus might initially suggest.

It's certainly not Pragmatic Play tearing up the rulebook, but Bubble Up! takes an established Money Collect idea and gives it a neat visual mechanic that's particularly easy to understand.

Features

Money Symbols (Cash Prizes)

Pufferfish act as the game's Money Symbols, carrying individual prize values that can be awarded when they're caught inside a Bubble Frame. Money symbols can also contribute to winning combinations themselves.

The clever part isn't really the Money symbols themselves — we've seen plenty of those before — but the uncertainty created by the frames. A screen containing several attractive values means very little if the bubble decides to go sightseeing somewhere else.

Bubble Frames (Cash Collect)

The Bubble Frames are Bubble Up's defining feature. Frames ranging from 2x2 all the way up to 6x6 can appear over random areas of the grid, collecting the Money symbols contained within them.

It's a good example of a feature that's extremely easy to understand without being completely predictable. Bigger frames naturally give you more room to catch Money symbols, while placement is just as important as size.

A full 6x6 frame is the one you really want to see because it covers the entire playing area — no fish escapes that particular net.

Overlapping Bubble Frames (Multiplier)

Two Bubble Frames can appear together, and any Money symbol sitting where those frames overlap can receive a multiplier of up to 10x before its value is awarded.

This is where the otherwise straightforward frame mechanic becomes considerably more interesting. You're no longer only looking at whether a Money symbol has been caught; you're looking at exactly where it sits and whether the two bubbles have crossed over it.

It's a relatively simple multiplier mechanic, but one that fits naturally with the main feature rather than feeling added simply to make the feature list longer.

Free Spins

Landing three to six Pearl Scatter symbols triggers Free Spins, beginning with six spins. The number of Scatters used to trigger the feature determines how many modifiers you receive, ranging from one to four.

A Bubble Frame appears on every Free Spin, immediately making the feature more active than the base game.

There's progression too. Every three additional Scatters collected during the bonus award another two Free Spins and increase the Bubble Frame by one level, eventually reaching a maximum 6x6 frame covering the entire grid.

That gives the bonus a proper sense of development. You're not merely watching six free spins disappear one by one; landing additional Scatters can make the remaining spins increasingly interesting.

Feature Modifiers (Bonus Modifiers)

Before Free Spins begin, players reveal Feature Modifiers which alter the bonus round. Depending on the number of Scatters that triggered Free Spins, between one and four modifiers are awarded.

These can increase the number of Money symbols or Scatter symbols appearing, start proceedings with a larger Bubble Frame, or guarantee two frames on every spin.

I like this addition because two bonus rounds don't necessarily begin under identical conditions. Getting multiple modifiers — particularly ones that complement each other — can make the feature look considerably more promising before the first Free Spin has even started.

Fixed Jackpots (Fixed Prizes)

Bubble Up! also attaches named Fixed Prizes to some Money symbols rather than using a progressive jackpot. The tiers include Mini, Minor, Major, Grand and the top Maxi prize.

They work well within the existing mechanic because they're not detached jackpot meters sitting above the game. A valuable prize can be staring back at you from the grid — but you still need the Bubble Frame to catch it.

Gameplay

40%
8.0/10

Bubble Up! benefits enormously from having a mechanic you can understand almost instantly. Money symbols are valuable, Bubble Frames collect them and overlapping frames can make them more valuable. There's no need to spend ten minutes buried in the information screen before knowing what you're hoping to see.

The random positioning of the frames also gives ordinary spins a little more theatre. Seeing where a frame lands relative to the Money symbols is the central hook, and it works.

The downside is that the base game is heavily dependent on that mechanic. When the frames aren't doing anything interesting, there isn't a huge amount elsewhere fighting for your attention.

Free Spins take the Bubble Frame idea and make considerably better use of it.

Guaranteeing a frame on every spin removes some of the quieter periods of the base game, while collecting Scatters simultaneously awards additional spins and increases the frame size. Reaching the larger frames therefore feels like genuine progression rather than simply receiving a cosmetic upgrade.

The pre-bonus modifiers are another strong addition. More Money symbols, additional Scatters, larger starting frames and guaranteed double frames all interact directly with the central mechanic.

That's important: Bubble Up! doesn't have a dozen features competing for attention. Most of them are trying to make the same feature better.

Visuals & Presentation

20%
8.0/10

Bubble Up! is bright, colourful and deliberately playful. The cartoon sea creatures are expressive, the underwater environment is cleanly presented and the oversized pink octopus gives the game an instantly recognisable face.

More importantly, the visuals help explain the gameplay. Bubble Frames are clearly visible over the grid, Money symbols stand apart from ordinary symbols and overlapping areas are easy to identify. For a game built around symbol position, that clarity matters.

It isn't a visual showstopper, and the cute underwater theme isn't particularly original, but everything looks polished and fits together nicely.

Originality

7.0/10

Pragmatic Play isn't exactly exploring previously undiscovered waters here. Money symbols, Cash Collect mechanics, Free Spins and modifiers are all well-established territory.

The Bubble Frame mechanic is what saves it from feeling like another straight reskin. Having randomly positioned frames physically capture Money symbols — and allowing overlapping frames to multiply them — gives the familiar collection concept its own identity.

Free Spins then make better use of that idea by progressively expanding the frames.

So while the ingredients are mostly familiar, Pragmatic Play has at least put them together in a way that feels recognisably Bubble Up!.

Final Summary

Bubble Up! doesn't completely blow the Cash Collect formula out of the water, but its Bubble Frames give an increasingly familiar style of slot a welcome twist.

The mechanic is simple enough to understand immediately, while overlapping frames, bonus modifiers and progressively larger frames provide enough depth to stop it becoming a one-bubble wonder. Free Spins are comfortably the highlight, particularly when several modifiers start working together.

The underwater theme won't win many prizes for originality, but the game underneath it is polished, accessible and cleverly constructed. Bubble Up! floats comfortably above average with an 8.1/10.
