Released by Kalamba Games in July 2026, Chest Chaser Hold and Win goes treasure hunting with a 5x5 grid packed with coins, chests and special symbols. There are no traditional paylines doing the work here. Instead, much of the game revolves around the position of Prize, Collect, Chest and Mystery symbols, with neighbouring symbols interacting to build and collect values.
The Chest symbols are what give the base game its identity. They collect values from adjacent Coin symbols and can remain sticky while they're successfully collecting. There's also a Frame that selects a random position after each spin. Depending on which special symbol it catches, this can produce an instant prize, transform a Mystery symbol or help open the door to the Hold and Win Bonus.
It's a neat concept because positioning genuinely matters. Seeing a valuable Prize symbol isn't necessarily the end of the story, since what lands beside it can determine whether that value gets collected. When several special symbols gather in the same area, the grid starts to look considerably more interesting.
The presentation is bright and packed with gold, but treasure hunting isn't exactly unexplored territory in slots. The real personality comes from the grid itself rather than the theme. Kalamba has essentially taken the familiar Hold and Win treasure chest and hidden a few extra compartments inside it.
Chest Symbols collect the values of adjacent Coin symbols and remain sticky for as long as they continue collecting. Their accumulated values can produce instant wins when a Chest matches the randomly selected Frame position.
This is one of the better ideas in Chest Chaser because it makes location important. A Chest surrounded by useful Coins is considerably more interesting than one stranded in a quiet corner of the grid.
There's also some progression to it. Instead of a Collector simply arriving, doing its job and disappearing, a Chest can stick around while it continues finding treasure nearby.
After each spin, the Frame selects a random grid position and interacts with whichever special symbol occupies that space. It can award Prize symbols immediately, activate Collect symbols, transform sticky Mystery symbols or turn the right Mystery into a Bonus symbol.
It's arguably the game's most distinctive mechanic because it means the symbols sitting on the grid are only half of the equation. You're also waiting to discover where the Frame decides to land.
Sometimes you've got all the treasure sitting there. You just need the Frame to stop admiring the scenery and land somewhere useful.
Collect Symbols gather Prize values from adjacent positions. Because they only affect neighbouring symbols rather than sweeping up everything on the grid, their location can make a substantial difference to what they're worth.
That restriction is actually quite important to the gameplay. It creates more anticipation when several valuable prizes appear around a Collector, but naturally produces the opposite feeling when the good stuff lands just out of reach.
Sticky Mystery Symbols remain in position and can transform into Bonus, Collect or Prize symbols when activated by the Frame.
They're essentially the wild cards of Chest Chaser. You know there's something potentially useful sitting there, but not what it's going to become.
That uncertainty works particularly well alongside the Frame because the game gives you time to see the Mystery waiting on the grid before revealing whether you've uncovered treasure or something considerably less exciting.
Trigger the Hold and Win bonus and play begins with three respins. New qualifying symbols reset the counter back to three, while the special symbols remain in position and continue interacting throughout the feature.
This is where the game's collection system has more room to develop. Collectors can repeatedly benefit from Prize symbols sitting around them, while Mystery symbols introduce the possibility of additional Collect, Prize or Bonus outcomes.
It's a familiar Hold and Win framework, but the adjacent collection mechanics give it more going on than simply filling empty positions with increasingly valuable Coins.
Four Cashpots can be awarded during the Hold and Win feature, with Kalamba confirming prizes of up to 100x the stake.
They're fixed prizes rather than progressive jackpots, so I wouldn't treat Chest Chaser as a jackpot slot in the same sense as the Dream Drop games we've reviewed. The Cashpots are better viewed as additional targets within the bonus.
They're welcome, although a 100x top Cashpot isn't exactly enough treasure to retire the pirate ship.
Kalamba's HyperBet increases the number of sticky Mystery positions and doubles the chance of triggering the Hold and Win bonus.
This is another terminology distinction worth keeping consistent in our reviews. HyperBet isn't a bonus feature itself. It's an Enhanced Bet that changes the configuration of the game in exchange for the increased stake required by the available version.
Its purpose here is straightforward: more Mystery opportunities and a better chance of reaching the main bonus.
Chest Chaser has a little more thought behind its base game than the title might initially suggest. Adjacent collection means positioning matters, sticky Chests can build value and the random Frame gives you something to watch after each spin.
That's enough to separate it from the most basic Hold and Win releases, although the game remains heavily dependent on special symbols creating the right combinations. Independent demo testing has also described quieter stretches when Prize symbols appear without Collectors in useful positions, which sounds like an inevitable consequence of the design rather than something I'd treat as a statistical characteristic of the game.
There's a decent puzzle like quality to the grid when things start connecting, but the treasure hunt can occasionally spend a little too long looking for the map.
The feature set is nicely interconnected.
Chest Symbols collect neighbouring Coins, the Frame determines which special positions activate, Mystery symbols can transform into useful outcomes and all of this feeds naturally into Hold and Win. That's considerably better than having six features that barely acknowledge each other's existence.
The bonus itself benefits from repeated collection possibilities and four Cashpots, while HyperBet provides an optional way of increasing feature activity.
There's plenty happening, although nothing quite reaches the level where I'd call the feature set exceptional.
Chest Chaser goes for the familiar treasure hunting combination of gold coins, glowing chests and hidden riches. It's bright and easy to read, and the special symbols need to be visually clear because their position relative to one another is so important.
Kalamba's presentation is polished enough, but the theme itself doesn't give the art department much opportunity to surprise us. Treasure chests full of gold have probably worked more shifts in online slots than most of us have.
The visual effects surrounding collections and transformations add some life to proceedings, but it's the mechanics rather than the scenery that you'll remember.
A game called Chest Chaser Hold and Win was never going to score ten for originality before we'd even opened the lid. Hold and Win, Coin prizes, Cashpots and treasure themes are all extremely familiar territory.
The Frame mechanic changes things.
Having a randomly selected position determine instant wins and transformations, combined with sticky Chests that collect adjacent values, gives Chest Chaser a recognisable gameplay identity of its own.
Kalamba hasn't discovered buried treasure nobody knew existed, but it has at least drawn a different map to get there.

Chest Chaser Hold and Win takes an extremely familiar bonus format and makes it considerably more interesting through positioning and interaction.
Sticky Chests collecting neighbouring values give the grid some purpose, while the Frame adds uncertainty by determining which special symbols spring into action. Hold and Win then gives those mechanics more room to work together rather than replacing them with something completely different.
The treasure theme and Cashpots won't win many prizes for originality, but there's more underneath this particular chest lid than the name initially suggests.
