About Cursed Moon Power Collection

There's certainly no shortage of vampires lurking around online slots, but Cursed Moon Power Collection gives its gothic setting a little more purpose than simply sticking Dracula on the reels and calling it a day.

Play'n GO puts Dante, a cursed vampire hunter, at the centre of the action as he works his way through werewolves, zombies and other creatures of the night in pursuit of Dracula. The haunted forest, distant castle and blood red characters create a suitably gloomy setting, with a proper story running through the game rather than the theme feeling pasted over an unrelated set of mechanics.

There's quite a lot happening beneath the Cursed Moon, but the underlying gameplay remains relatively easy to understand. Much of the action revolves around collecting Coin symbols, building multipliers and progressing Dante through different levels, with that progress eventually feeding into the Free Spins feature.

It's a clever way of giving the base game some purpose. Rather than every spin feeling completely disconnected from the last, there's the possibility of building towards something more interesting. The downside is that Cash Collect games are hardly an endangered species these days, so some of the underlying gameplay will feel immediately familiar to experienced slot players.

Visually, Play'n GO has gone all in on the gothic setting. The dark forest, moonlit castle and cast of monsters give the game plenty of atmosphere, while Dante's crimson colouring stands out particularly well against the darker surroundings. It's moody without becoming a murky mess.

Features

Slay Collector (Cash Collect)

The Slay Collector is at the heart of the game. Coin and Instant Prize symbols can land across the central reels, while Dante appears as the Collector on the outside reels to scoop up their values.

Cash Collect is hardly a new trick, but it works particularly well with the other mechanics in Cursed Moon. A decent collection can become considerably more interesting once multipliers and Instant Prizes get involved, meaning there's usually a little more to watch for than simply landing a screen full of Coins.

Soul Fire Multiplier (Multiplier)

The Soul Fire Multiplier adds some extra bite to those collections. Soul Fire symbols increase the multiplier applied to collected values, creating the potential for what initially looks like a fairly ordinary collection to become considerably more valuable.

More importantly from a gameplay perspective, it works alongside the Collector rather than feeling like another feature that's simply been thrown onto the reels for the sake of having one.

Level Up (Progression)

This is arguably Cursed Moon's most interesting feature.

Landing Level Up symbols allows Dante to progress through five levels, with higher levels unlocking improvements that become particularly important during Free Spins. These include enhanced collections and stacked Coin symbols.

It gives the game something that plenty of Cash Collect slots lack: a sense of progression. You're not simply waiting for the next collection or bonus to arrive, there's something developing in the background.

Level Lock (Progression Save)

The Level Lock mechanic can preserve Dante's progression for a future Free Spins round rather than sending him straight back to square one.

It's not the flashiest feature in the game, but it's a useful addition because it makes the Level Up system feel more meaningful. Building your character only to lose everything immediately would rather take the fun out of all that monster slaying.

Free Spins

Free Spins start with eight spins and expand the playing area, while Level Up symbols can continue improving the feature and award additional spins.

This is where Cursed Moon is at its strongest. Instead of abandoning everything established during normal play and introducing a completely unrelated bonus, Free Spins build upon the same collection, multiplier and progression mechanics.

It makes the bonus feel like the payoff to what's been happening beforehand rather than a separate game that's been bolted onto the side.

Instant Prizes (Fixed Prizes)

Cursed Moon doesn't rely on a traditional progressive jackpot. Instead, Instant Prizes can appear within the Cash Collect mechanic and be collected alongside regular Coin values.

I prefer how they're incorporated here because they're visibly part of the gameplay. They're something you can actually see sitting on the reels waiting to be collected rather than an enormous jackpot meter hovering above proceedings and having very little relationship with what's happening underneath.

Our Rating

Gameplay

40%
8.0/10

Cursed Moon gets the fundamentals right. Cash Collect provides an easy to understand foundation, while multipliers and progression give normal spins more purpose than simply waiting for Free Spins.

The Level Up mechanic is particularly effective because there's a genuine reason to care when another progression symbol lands. It gives the base game direction without making it unnecessarily complicated.

The familiar Cash Collect foundation prevents it scoring higher, but Play'n GO has done a good job of building additional gameplay around it.

Bonus & Features

30%
8.5/10

This is the strongest part of Cursed Moon.

Slay Collector, Soul Fire Multiplier and Level Up aren't simply three features sharing the same reels, they actually work together. Progression improves the bonus, multipliers enhance collections and Free Spins provide the stage where everything can come together.

There's enough going on to create some depth without requiring a degree in slot mechanics to understand what's happening.

Visuals & Presentation

20%
8.5/10

Play'n GO has done a particularly good job with the gothic presentation. The forest, castle, monsters and vampire hunting protagonist give the game a distinctive appearance, while the darker colour palette suits the theme without sacrificing too much clarity.

The character artwork is strong and there's enough visual detail to create atmosphere without overcrowding the reels.

It looks like somebody actually designed a vampire game rather than simply finding a picture of Dracula and turning the brightness down.

Originality

10%
6.5/10

This is where Cursed Moon loses ground.

The gothic story has personality, but the underlying Cash Collect setup is extremely familiar. Players who've spent much time with modern slots will recognise the basic collector formula almost immediately.

Level Up and the way progression carries into Free Spins give Play'n GO's interpretation more bite, but this is ultimately a well executed variation of an established mechanic rather than something genuinely new.

Final Summary

Cursed Moon Power Collection proves there's still some life left in Cash Collect slots, even if most of the characters here are technically undead.

The familiar collection mechanic is strengthened by Soul Fire multipliers and, more importantly, a Level Up system that gives the game a genuine sense of progression. Free Spins then bring those mechanics together rather than simply starting again with an unrelated bonus.

It isn't Play'n GO reinventing the slot machine, which costs Cursed Moon points for originality, but strong presentation, interconnected features and an entertaining gothic theme give this familiar formula enough new blood to earn 8.1/10.
