There is enough here to take a chance on Slovenia causing a minor upset in Ljubljana. Scotland arrive under new management following Steve Clarke’s departure after the World Cup, and Sébastien Pocognoli’s first match in charge comes with Scott McTominay, Ché Adams and Lawrence Shankland all unavailable. Slovenia’s recent results have been patchy, but home advantage gives them a better chance than their overall form suggests. They also held Scotland to a 2-2 draw the last time the sides met in Slovenia. Scotland conceded against both Morocco and Brazil in their final two World Cup games, and with a new manager trying to impose his ideas, they may be vulnerable defensively.

17:00 San Marino v Finland

San Marino deserve credit for earning promotion from League D, but the step up to League C immediately puts them against much stronger opposition. They are without a win in 14 matches, losing 13 of them, and their recent results include a 7-1 defeat to Romania. Finland have also won every previous meeting between these nations, including a 6-0 victory when they met in Helsinki in 2023. Finland have struggled against stronger opposition recently, but this represents a major drop in class after facing Germany and Hungary. They should dominate possession and territory, and with Benjamin Källman and Joel Pohjanpalo providing the attacking threat, there is potential for the score to become increasingly one-sided if they strike early.
San Marino 0-5 Finland

19:45 England v Spain

Spain arrive in excellent form and have the technical quality to dictate long periods of this contest through their strength in midfield and ability to dominate possession. England should still create opportunities at Wembley, particularly when they can break quickly and get their attacking players running at the Spanish defence, so a home goal looks perfectly realistic. The bigger concern for England is containing Spain for the full 90 minutes. Their movement, patience in possession and ability to create chances from different areas could gradually take its toll, especially if England are forced to chase the game and leave additional space. We expect a competitive start before Spain's extra control and attacking quality becomes increasingly evident after the break.
England 1-2 Spain

Czechia are capable of making home advantage count and have scored at least twice in four of their last six home matches, including a 2-2 draw with Denmark. Their recent World Cup campaign was disappointing, but back in Prague they should carry considerably more attacking threat. Croatia have the greater experience and enough attacking quality to cause plenty of problems themselves, scoring twice or more in four of their last five matches. However, they have also shown defensive vulnerability, including conceding four against England at the World Cup. With both sides capable of creating chances, an entertaining draw appeals.
Czech Republic 2-2 Croatia
