DR RASCAL looks capable of following up his Vintage Stakes success with another big run in the National Stakes. He was better than the winning margin suggested at Goodwood, having to wait for a gap while Haffner enjoyed a much cleaner passage. Once in the clear, Dr Rascal finished strongly and looked to have plenty left in the tank. The Curragh should play more to his strengths and, unlike some of his rivals who are priced on potential, he already brings strong Group-race form to the table. He looks the one to beat.

MANTON BAY gets the vote in the finale at the Curragh, with the return to 1m2f looking a big positive. He ran a cracker in the Irish Cambridgeshire last time, travelling nicely on the inner before moving into second over a furlong out. He stayed on strongly and pulled well clear of the remainder, only finding the rapidly improving Loughrea too good. That performance suggests his current mark is workable and stepping back up in trip should suit him even better. With his latest run looking a strong piece of handicap form, Manton Bay has plenty going for him.
