Rick Doyle's Daily Double
Rick Doyle reviews Friday's action, focusing on Doncaster's Day 2 St Leger card for today's Daily Double. He expects a strong showing from Aidan O'Brien's promising juvenile, Carry The Flag, who drops in trip. His second selection, Room Fourteen, returns to a favoured track with a significant weight advantage over a recent rival. Both selections represent good value on the day especially with top jockeys in the saddle.

Carlsberg Danish Pilsner Flying Childers Stakes (Group 2)

Carry The Flag 5/1
Ryan Moore/A P O'Brien
Carry The Flag looks to step up for Aidan O’Brien in the Flying Childers at Doncaster (2.25), with the drop to 5f expected to suit. He has performed well in Group 1 company on his last two starts, finishing close behind Sun Goddess in the Phoenix Stakes before chasing home a smart rival in the Prix Morny at Deauville. Both efforts came over 6f and he showed plenty of early speed, so this sharper test could bring out the best in him. With Ryan Moore back on board, Carry The Flag could prove difficult to catch.

Room Fourteen 15/2
Saffie Osborne/James Fanshawe
Room Fourteen can reverse recent Goodwood form with Silver Lake when the pair meet again at Doncaster. James Fanshawe’s filly was beaten five lengths that day, but Ryan Moore looked after her once her chance had gone and she now enjoys a significant 15lb swing at the weights. She had previously won nicely over this course and is only 6lb higher here, while the step up in trip should suit given the stamina on her dam’s side. A steady gallop shouldn’t be an issue either, having already shown she can win when the pace isn’t strong. Price has shortened overnight so signs of support signal that she is widely supported.
