EMPIRESTATEOFMIND has returned to form since dropping in the weights and looks particularly well suited by today's testing conditions. John and Sean Quinn's eight-year-old ended a losing run with a decisive C&D success on soft ground earlier this month before going down by just a neck at Hamilton only two days later, that excellent effort coming over 1m1f on heavy ground. He has been raised 3lbs since, but remains well below the marks from which he was competing earlier in the season. The return to Ayr's mile should suit and with proven form in deep ground a major asset, he can continue his resurgence.

RED SHEA made a highly encouraging debut when second in a 17-runner bumper at Cork last month and should have more to offer with that experience behind him. Cian Hughes' four-year-old was sent off at 25/1 but comfortably exceeded expectations, finishing best of the rest behind a wide-margin winner over 2m2f on good ground. The slight drop in trip should pose no problem and he already has proven conditions in his favour. Close House sets a useful standard on his Ayr third, but Red Shea receives 2lbs from that rival and remains open to significant improvement on just his second start. He can make the journey from Ireland worthwhile.

BLUE HERO has an exceptional record at Bath and looks capable of bouncing back from a disappointing latest effort. All 11 of Adrian Wintle's eight-year-old's victories have come at this track, including twice this summer, while he was beaten just a short head by Buckland Belle over this C&D earlier this month. He finished well behind that rival here subsequently, but a slow start left him with too much to do and that run is readily forgiven. He remains only 2lbs higher than for their narrow clash and conditions should suit, with several of his best recent efforts coming on quick ground. At double-figure odds, another bold showing would be no surprise.
