Coin UP Volcano from 3 Oaks Gaming is a 2026 Hold and Win slot that does away with conventional symbol wins and puts almost everything into building towards its main bonus. Released on 6 August 2026, it starts on a compact 4x3 grid with one to three selectable lines, while a locked BONUS UP row above the reels hints at how much larger the game can become once the feature gets going.
The base game is deliberately unusual. Rather than spinning for ordinary fruit, card or character combinations, you're trying to land four matching symbols across an active line to trigger Hold and Win. Sticky Coins can remain behind between spins, so there is at least some sense of building towards something rather than starting from scratch every time.
Hold and Win is where Coin UP Volcano properly heats up. The playing area can eventually expand to 4x6 with 24 positions, while the BONUS UP row introduces modifiers capable of unlocking additional spaces, upgrading Coins, adding multipliers and improving Mystery Symbols. The familiar three Respin counter resets whenever another qualifying symbol lands, allowing a strong bonus to develop gradually rather than simply filling the same little grid from beginning to end.
There are five fixed jackpots woven into that progression. Mini, Minor and Major can appear among the collected prizes, while filling the lower 12 positions awards the 500x Grand. Unlocking and filling the complete 24 position board also awards the 1,000x Royal, so reaching the very top means completely filling the volcano rather than simply waiting for a lucky jackpot symbol.
The base game may keep things on a low simmer, but once the upper rows start opening, Coin UP Volcano becomes considerably more entertaining.
Sticky Coins remain in position during the base game while you continue trying to complete the combination needed to trigger Hold and Win. Their values are carried into the feature if you successfully get there, giving ordinary spins some much needed continuity.
I like this because the base game would feel particularly empty without it. Once a Sticky Coin is sitting on the reels, subsequent spins have an obvious target and there's a little more tension around finding the symbols needed to complete the trigger. The downside is equally obvious when you've got something useful stuck there and the rest of the reels stubbornly refuse to cooperate, but at least the game has given you something worth shouting at.
Hold and Win starts with three Respins, with qualifying symbols remaining locked while the empty positions continue spinning. Every new qualifying symbol resets the counter to three, giving the feature more time to develop as the board fills.
What makes this version work is that filling the grid isn't your only objective. Large sections of the eventual board are still inaccessible when the bonus begins, so you're simultaneously trying to collect prizes and unlock somewhere for more of them to land.
That gives the feature a much better sense of progression than a standard Hold and Win where the same 15 positions stare back at you from the first Respin to the last.
The BONUS UP row becomes active during Hold and Win and houses the game's main modifiers. REEL UP, MULTI UP, COIN UP and MYSTERY UP can affect the reel below them, while the corresponding SUPER versions can spread their effect across all four reels.
This is where the bonus starts becoming much more interesting because a symbol landing above the grid can have considerably more influence than another small Cash value landing inside it. Once you've built a decent collection, the right SUPER modifier can improve several parts of the board at once and turn an average looking feature into something far more promising.
REEL UP unlocks additional positions above its corresponding reel, allowing the playing area to grow towards the full 24 position board. The SUPER version can unlock positions across all four reels.
This is easily my favourite mechanic in Coin UP Volcano because opening another row genuinely changes the bonus. Every unlocked position gives subsequent Respins another place to land something useful, while also taking you closer to the Royal Jackpot requirement.
It fits the theme rather nicely too. Instead of the volcano simply sitting behind the reels looking dramatic, a successful feature actually feels as though you're opening more of it and discovering what's buried further inside.
MULTI UP adds multipliers to qualifying positions on the affected reel, while SUPER MULTI UP can spread multipliers across the wider board.
Its value depends heavily on when it arrives, which is something I like. A multiplier applied when you've barely collected anything isn't going to cause much excitement, but once the board is filling with stronger Coins and Jackpot opportunities, the same modifier can suddenly become one of the better things to see.
It means the bonus gets hotter as it develops rather than every modifier being worth roughly the same from the first Respin onwards.
COIN UP improves Coin values on the affected reel, while its SUPER counterpart can apply the upgrade across the board. The mechanic can push existing symbols through stronger prize states rather than simply adding another Cash Symbol to an empty position.
This works particularly well alongside REEL UP. One modifier gives you more space while the other improves what's already occupying it, so a good feature can develop in both directions at once.
A nearly full board is obviously nice to look at, but a nearly full board where somebody has also been turning the temperature up on the prizes is considerably better.
MYSTERY UP improves Mystery positions on its corresponding reel, while the SUPER version can apply the effect across the board. Mystery Jackpot Symbols can subsequently reveal one of the fixed Jackpot prizes.
This is one of the modifiers that becomes particularly satisfying when several Mystery positions have already accumulated. Instead of hoping they eventually reveal something worthwhile, MYSTERY UP improves what those positions can become and gives an otherwise uncertain part of the board considerably more promise.
On a busy grid, the SUPER version can provide one of the better moments in the feature because several positions suddenly become much more interesting at once.
Coin Collect gathers the values of active Coins already sitting on the board.
The Collector naturally gets better as the feature develops. Catch one when there are only a few modest Coins available and it's useful without being memorable. Get one after REEL UP has opened more of the board and the grid has filled with improved values and it can become considerably more valuable.
It's another mechanic that benefits from everything else going well first, which helps the bonus feel as though its features are working together rather than taking turns.
Extra Life provides another opportunity to continue when the normal Respin sequence has run its course.
It's not the feature you're going to remember when describing Coin UP Volcano, but it can be one of the most welcome when you've got a promising board and the Respins suddenly dry up. Hold and Win games have a nasty habit of getting interesting immediately before producing three blanks, so having the volcano occasionally refuse to go out is a useful little safety net.
Coin UP Volcano has five Fixed Jackpots. The Mini pays 10x, Minor 20x, Major 50x, Grand 500x and Royal 1,000x the line bet.
The Grand and Royal are the interesting ones because they're tied directly to filling the board. Cover the lower 12 positions and you earn the Grand. Unlock and completely fill all 24 positions and the Royal is added as well.
I much prefer that to a jackpot that simply appears from nowhere. When only a couple of positions remain empty, you can see exactly what's standing between you and the prize. By the time you're chasing the Royal, you've effectively got to fill the entire crater.
Coin UP Volcano is a much better game once you've actually got something burning.
The base game is extremely stripped back, and that's both interesting and slightly frustrating. Sticky Coins give you something to build around, but without conventional line wins there can be stretches where you're effectively waiting for the combination that opens Hold and Win. That makes the feature feel important, although perhaps a little too important for the overall balance of the game.
Once inside, the gameplay improves considerably. Unlocking another section of the board feels genuinely useful because you're creating more opportunities for future symbols while moving towards the Royal. The UP modifiers then give you several ways of improving a feature that's already going well, which makes later Respins more interesting than the early ones.
There's also a nice change in what you're watching as the bonus develops. At first, another Coin is enough to keep you happy. Once most of the volcano is open, you're counting empty spaces and wondering whether the whole thing might actually fill.
The base game keeps this from scoring higher, but the feature itself has plenty of heat.
Score 7.2/10
Hold and Win has to carry Coin UP Volcano, but fortunately 3 Oaks has given it broad enough shoulders.
REEL UP is the standout because it changes the size and potential of the feature rather than simply improving a number. COIN UP and MULTI UP then become more useful as that expanded board fills, while MYSTERY UP can improve positions you've already collected. The SUPER versions give the feature occasional bigger moments where several reels can be affected together.
I particularly like how the Grand and Royal are incorporated. Unlocking more of the board isn't merely useful because it provides additional Cash positions; it's necessary if you want to reach the game's biggest fixed prize. That gives REEL UP a genuine purpose within the overall design.
The feature can become quite busy when several modifiers start landing, but it never becomes difficult to understand. You're basically trying to make the volcano bigger, fill it with better prizes and keep the Respins alive long enough to collect the lot.
For a Hold and Win game, that's a pretty good day's work.
Score 8.5/10
Coin UP Volcano looks best when the feature is going well, which is exactly how this type of game should be designed.
The compact base game is relatively restrained, while Hold and Win opens into a much larger volcanic environment filled with glowing reds, oranges and gold. As additional positions unlock, the visual scale increases alongside the potential of the bonus.
The modifiers are also easy to distinguish, which becomes important when you've got a 24 position board containing Cash values, Mystery Symbols, jackpots and several different UP effects. 3 Oaks has resisted the temptation to make everything glow at once simply because there's a volcano involved.
It's not a particularly original theme, but the expansion mechanic gives the setting a reason to exist. The game doesn't merely put Coins in front of some lava and call it a day. As the feature develops, it actually feels as though more of the volcano is opening.
Score 7.8/10
The expanding board is the idea that gives Coin UP Volcano its own identity.
Starting Hold and Win without access to the complete playing area immediately changes what you're trying to achieve. Another Coin is useful, but REEL UP can be even more important because it gives every future Respin additional space to work with and brings the Royal closer.
The BONUS UP row is equally well judged. Its modifiers aren't separate little games competing for attention; they all manipulate the same board you're trying to build. Some open it, some improve the Coins and others strengthen the Mystery positions.
That makes the whole thing feel coherent rather than overstuffed.
There's still a very recognisable Hold and Win engine underneath everything, so Coin UP Volcano isn't reinventing the genre. What it does do is give the familiar three Respin chase a clear sense of expansion, and that's enough to stop it disappearing into the enormous pile of Coin games already sitting in the lobby.

Coin UP Volcano puts almost all of its chips on Hold and Win, but once the feature starts expanding, it's easy to see why.
The base game is unusually bare and won't suit anyone who wants constant line wins or several different features appearing between bonuses. Sticky Coins provide some persistence, but most of the anticipation comes from trying to reach the part of the game where the volcano finally starts doing something.
Hold and Win makes the wait much easier to forgive. The board can grow from 12 to 24 positions, while the BONUS UP row gives you several ways of improving what's happening inside it. REEL UP is the feature I'd most want to see because every additional space creates another opportunity while taking the feature closer to its ultimate target.
The jackpot structure makes excellent use of that progression. Filling the lower section awards the 500x Grand, while completely filling the expanded board adds the 1,000x Royal. There's something much more satisfying about watching the final empty positions disappear when you know exactly what's waiting on the other side.
Coin UP Volcano isn't the biggest paying Hold and Win game around, and its base game could certainly use another reason to keep your attention. What it gets right is progression. A good bonus doesn't simply contain more Coins than a bad one; it physically grows, its existing prizes can improve and the biggest jackpot only becomes available once you've managed to open the entire board.
It takes a while to get the volcano going, but once the lid comes off, there's plenty bubbling underneath.
Overall Rating: 7.8/10.
