About Olympus 7’s Dream Drop

Olympus 7's Dream Drop from Relax Gaming takes Greek mythology and mixes it with something you probably wouldn't expect to find at the top of Mount Olympus: a collection of miniature fruit machines. Zeus, Athena, Hades and Hermes are all present, but rather than simply decorating the reels, the gods each have their own Mini Slot with different mechanics and jackpot opportunities.

The main game uses a 6x4 grid with 4,096 ways to win, but it's really there to provide a route into the Mini Slots. Special Mini Slot symbols can land on the reels and activate individual 3x3 games, with six different versions available. That gives Olympus 7's Dream Drop a very different rhythm from the usual Greek mythology slot. Instead of waiting for one big Free Spins round, you're looking for smaller feature events that can appear during regular play.

Visually, Relax Gaming has gone for a colourful and polished interpretation of Ancient Greece. Marble, gold, clouds and larger than life gods give proceedings the appropriately grand treatment, while the little mechanical Mini Slots provide an unusual contrast against all that mythology. It shouldn't really work, but somehow Zeus and a miniature fruit machine make surprisingly good neighbours.

The Dream Drop progressive jackpot system is also a major part of the experience. Each Mini Slot is connected to a particular jackpot, including the new Daily Jackpot and the headline Mega Jackpot, which can reach €2 million. That inevitably makes Olympus 7's Dream Drop more jackpot focused than a conventional slot, but Relax Gaming has at least built the jackpots into the actual features rather than simply hanging a giant prize meter above the reels.

Features

Olympus Mini Slots

Landing Mini Slot symbols on at least three reels activates the corresponding Olympus Mini Slots, with six different games available. Each has its own paytable, feature and associated Dream Drop jackpot.

This is comfortably the most distinctive part of Olympus 7's Dream Drop. Rather than having one bonus that behaves identically every time, the Mini Slot you activate determines what happens next.

It also creates a nice change of pace. The main reels temporarily give way to what looks like a tiny old fashioned fruit machine, before you're dropped back into the main game. It's an unusual combination, but one that gives the slot considerably more personality.

Athena Mini Slot

The Athena Mini Slot uses a Nudge mechanic, which can move a symbol into position when two of the three symbols required for a win are already aligned. Athena is also linked to the Rapid Dream Drop Jackpot.

Nudges are one of the oldest tricks in the slot machine book, which makes their appearance inside these little mechanical looking games rather fitting. It's simple, instantly understandable and gives those near misses the possibility of a second chance.

Hades Mini Slot

The Hades Mini Slot can apply a Random Multiplier to wins and provides access to the Midi Dream Drop Jackpot.

It's one of the simpler Mini Slots, but multipliers don't exactly need much explaining to make themselves welcome. Hades might rule the underworld, but apparently he's also quite happy multiplying fruit machine wins on the side.

Zeus Mini Slot

The Zeus Mini Slot can introduce additional Wild Symbols to improve winning possibilities and is associated with the Maxi Dream Drop Jackpot.

Extra Wilds aren't particularly adventurous as a mechanic, although they fit nicely into the quick fire nature of the Mini Slots. Zeus appears, throws some additional power at the reels and lets the result speak for itself.

Hermes Mini Slot

The Hermes Mini Slot uses a repeating win mechanic where successful Hermes symbols can continue doubling the prize, with the multiplier capable of reaching 512x. This Mini Slot also houses the Daily Jackpot.

This is one of the more interesting variations because there's a clear sense of progression as the multiplier continues doubling. Once you've started climbing through the values, every successful continuation becomes considerably more important.

Feud Mini Slot

The Feud Mini Slot combines Wild symbols with Wild Multipliers, giving the Mini Slot two ways of strengthening potential wins. It is also connected to the Major Dream Drop Jackpot.

Wilds and multipliers are hardly new residents of Mount Olympus, but combining them inside one of the Mini Slots gives Feud a little more going on than some of its simpler counterparts.

Olympus Mini Slot

The Olympus Mini Slot sits at the top of the pile, combining Nudges with Wild Multipliers and providing the route towards the Mega Dream Drop Jackpot, which can reach €2 million.

It effectively brings together some of the mechanics seen in the other Mini Slots and attaches the biggest jackpot to proceedings. Unsurprisingly, this is the one where Relax Gaming has saved most of its thunder.

Olympus Respin

After a full Mini Slot activation, there's a chance of triggering an Olympus Respin, which reactivates all of the Mini Slots and gives them another spin.

This is an important addition because a Mini Slot doesn't necessarily have to be a one and done event. Getting everything fired up again provides another opportunity for the different features and jackpot chances to come into play.

Mighty Spins

Mighty Spins are available for 20x the normal stake and guarantee Mini Slots on at least three reels. Mini Slots can also stack on the reels to increase the potential of the feature.

This isn't a traditional Bonus Buy because you're still purchasing a spin rather than directly buying access to a predetermined bonus round. It's better described as an Enhanced Bet, which is precisely the sort of terminology distinction we want to maintain across these reviews.

Dream Drop

The Dream Drop system consists of six progressive jackpots, with individual jackpot opportunities attached to the different Mini Slots. The Mega and Major are Must Drop jackpots, while Dream Drop also includes its Daily jackpot mechanic.

I particularly like the way Relax Gaming has incorporated Dream Drop here. The jackpots aren't completely divorced from the rest of the game. You're activating different Mini Slots, learning what each one does and simultaneously discovering which jackpot you've got a chance of reaching.

The €2 million Mega will inevitably steal the headlines, but having multiple jackpot tiers means Dream Drop isn't entirely built around waiting for lightning to strike once in a lifetime.

Our Rating

Gameplay

40%
7.5/10

Olympus 7's Dream Drop is unusual because the main game isn't really where its personality lies. Standard spins are relatively straightforward, with the Mini Slots responsible for repeatedly breaking things up and providing most of the memorable moments.

That's both a strength and a weakness. When Mini Slots are activating, there's plenty to watch and the possibility of seeing several different mechanics keeps things varied. During quieter spells, the main reels themselves aren't doing anything particularly remarkable.

The Mini Slot concept gives the gameplay enough character to score well, but the gods are definitely doing most of the heavy lifting.

Bonus & Features

9.0/10

This is comfortably the game's strongest category.

Six Mini Slots with different mechanics create far more variety than simply having one bonus round repeated every time. Athena brings Nudges, Hades introduces multipliers, Zeus adds Wilds, Hermes has its escalating multiplier, Feud combines Wilds and multipliers, while Olympus brings several ideas together.

Olympus Respins provide another opportunity to reactivate the Mini Slots, while Mighty Spins give players an enhanced stake option without pretending to be a conventional Bonus Buy.

Then there's Dream Drop itself. Six jackpot opportunities integrated into six Mini Slots is a much more interesting implementation than simply sticking a progressive jackpot logo onto an otherwise unrelated game.

There's a lot here, but importantly, it feels organised rather than overcrowded.

Visuals & Presentation

20%
8.5/10

Greek mythology is hardly virgin territory for slot developers, so Relax Gaming had to do something beyond another angry Zeus throwing lightning bolts around.

The presentation is colourful and polished, with marble architecture, clouds, gold detailing and imposing character artwork creating the suitably extravagant Olympus setting. The real visual personality comes from the Mini Slots, though. Seeing little traditional slot machines emerge within this grand mythological setting creates a contrast that's surprisingly effective.

The individual Mini Slots are also visually distinct enough to help communicate that you're dealing with different features rather than simply watching the same bonus with another name.

It looks expensive, suitably excessive and just a little bit ridiculous. For a game about Greek gods operating miniature fruit machines, that's probably exactly right.

Originality

8.5/10

Using Greek mythology costs Olympus 7's Dream Drop a few points before we've even got started. Zeus has probably appeared in enough online slots to qualify for his own provider licence by now.

The gameplay concept is another matter.

Building six separate Mini Slots into the main game, assigning different mechanics and jackpots to each, then allowing all of them to reactivate through Olympus Respins gives this release a recognisable identity of its own. Relax Gaming hasn't invented Nudges, Wilds or multipliers, but the way they're packaged into the Mini Slot system feels considerably fresher.

Dream Drop has appeared in plenty of Relax Gaming titles, but its integration here is particularly clever because the different jackpot levels become part of the Mini Slot structure rather than an attachment to it.

Final Summary

Olympus 7's Dream Drop takes one of the most overworked themes in online slots and somehow manages to find something different to do with it.

The six Mini Slots are the real stars, providing different mechanics, different jackpot opportunities and regular changes of pace. Dream Drop also feels unusually well integrated, with each jackpot tied into a particular Mini Slot rather than simply hovering above the game waiting for divine intervention.

The regular reels could offer a little more excitement of their own, but once the gods start firing up their miniature fruit machines, Olympus becomes considerably more entertaining.

Overall Rating: 8.3/10.
