Barry Hill's Sunday Racing Tips

Sunday's racing action comes from Doncaster, Salisbury & Thirsk. Barry Hill gives his best bets for today.

2:40 Doncaster

Speedy Gonzales Sam Hay Handicap (Div II)

BUCKSHAW VILLAGE - 4/1

BUCKSHAW VILLAGE has demonstrated better performance since moving to his current stable. Now running from 5lb below his previous winning mark, the five-year-old has a promising opportunity at the weights. Cold Stare, who has a history of winning over this distance, should also be considered despite carrying the top weight. Additionally, Snazzy Jazzy, who is dropping in class, appears attractive with a competitive figure, though his record over this distance is rather modest.

3:40 Doncaster

Summer Saturday Series "Confined" Novice Stakes (No More Than Two Runs) (GBB Race)

THE KING'S GENERAL - 11/2

Hosaamm lived up to expectations with a head victory over 1m2f at Newbury. Now stepping up in trip, he might struggle to give away a 7lb penalty to THE KING'S GENERAL. The three-year-old from John & Thady Gosden's stable showed promise with a solid fourth-place finish over 1m2f at Nottingham and could significantly improve with the increased distance. As a son of Dubawi, he has a good chance to secure his first win. Additionally, Mr Nugget, a 110,000gns purchase, deserves attention on his debut.

4:00 Salisbury

Byerley Stud Peter & Virginia Walwyn Memorial British EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race)

NEW CHARTER - EVS

NEW CHARTER didn't perform well in the Woodcote at Epsom a couple of weeks ago, but Richard Hannon's filly showed considerable promise on her debut at Newmarket and deserves another chance here. Her stablemate, An Outlaw's Grace, is an interesting newcomer, having been purchased for £80,000 and being a half-brother to the Listed-placed Thanks Monica. Aysgarth should not be overlooked, and similar remarks apply to El Madar.

5:15 Thirsk

Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Handicap

ALIGN THE STARS - 6/1

ALIGN THE STARS  and Victory Shout performed commendably in a tactical race at Hamilton two weeks ago. ALIGN THE STARS, who finished strongly, is favored to reverse the outcome over this slightly extended distance. Dunstan, with proven stamina, is a significant contender, especially on his debut for Tom Dascombe. Additionally, stepping up in distance could benefit Castle In The Sand, making him the best of the remaining contenders.

5:30 Salisbury

Molson Coors Handicap

TARITINO - 11/8

TARITINO recently achieved an impressive double over 1m6f at Bath and is only 7lb higher for that victory. Joe Tickle's four-year-old is expected to handle the drop back in trip without any problems, making him a formidable contender. The main threat comes from Vin Rouge, who secured a place in this grade over 1m6f here last time and is running off the same mark. Additionally, Wilderness, returning to turf, could also be a strong contender.

6:15 Thirsk

Sky Bet Club Handicap

RATHGAR -  10/1 (E/W)

Dark Moon Rising surprised many with a victory by just over a length at Hamilton earlier this month and must be considered seriously despite a 4lb rise. However, RATHGAR is preferred after placing in a slightly tougher race at Salisbury last time. With David Probert now riding, he could be the one to beat. Banderas is also worth noting.
