Sunday's Irish Insider - Irish Racing Tips

John O'Keeffe is back this Sunday with 4 tips from Downpatrick & Gowran Park

Thank you everyone for for you support during my first week with the betting.bet bunch.  If you have been following my selections you would have made a few quid and today Im hoping to fill your pockets with a couple from both meetings in Ireland today. SIEGE OF TROY is my best bet of the day in the 4.51 at Gowran park who I the progressive sort who should get the win 2nd time out despite taken on a similar talent form the Jessica Harrington yard in Betula.

TIDEWAYS HERO - 10/3

TIDEWAYS HERO triumphed over geldings at Clonmel over this distance and now faces an 8lb higher mark and a step up in grade. Having been off for seven months before that success, she might have more to offer. New Year Honours showed good form over hurdles last summer and finished second to a quality horse on the all-weather in December. After a run in a charity race last month, she might continue to progress in this discipline. One Night Standard performed well in stronger maidens before winning easily as the favorite in a modest contest at Wexford. Although she now faces better ground and a shorter trip, she could be fairly handicapped for her debut. Hidden Land, with her affinity for the track, also merits consideration.

SLUICE - 5/2

SLUICE has been performing admirably in competitive events and is due for a win. The Starspangledbanner filly secured two placings at the start of her campaign and finished a close fifth at the Curragh in a race that has proven to be strong. Cheekpieces are being added now, and any rain would be advantageous. Indigo Five concluded last year with an impressive second-place finish at the Curragh, following a win at the same venue. She returns just 2lb higher and deserves respect. Drop The Dip is another filly who had a solid year in 2023 and would also benefit from any rainfall.

RIGHTFOLKSPLEASE - 11/4

The Paul Flynn-trained RIGHTFOLKSPLEASE has a chance to make amends after being the beaten favorite at Roscommon earlier this week. Finishing as the runner-up in that race, as well as on his previous start at Wexford, the six-year-old has shown consistent form and is poised to secure his first career win. La Hacienda appears well-handicapped off a hurdles mark of 89, being rated just 1lb higher on the Flat. However, after failing to beat any rivals in two outings since returning from a break, the Matthew Smith-trained mare needs to prove herself. Another Bonnie also holds potential claims, provided she is fit enough for her first start since last June.

SIEGE OF TROY - 2/1

SIEGE OF TROY is poised to secure a win on her second outing after narrowly missing out at Naas on her debut last month. Trained by Johnny Murtagh, the filly seemed to require every yard of the mile trip, so the step up by almost two furlongs should benefit her. Jessica Harrington's Betula, with a rating of 86, sets a solid benchmark. The daughter of Lope De Vega finished runner-up at Down Royal last time and is now significantly stepping up in trip. Abbey Actress showed considerable improvement from her moderate debut, staying on nicely to finish fifth at the Curragh in her latest start. Further progression is expected here.
