I actually like the simplicity here. There's no collection meter to fill and no mysterious character waiting to activate a bonus. When the Golden Cherries line up, you're going to Free Games.
The downside is obvious. Five Free Games is a pretty modest starting point, particularly by modern standards. Fortunately, that's only the beginning of how the feature works.
Free Games begin with 5, 6 or 7 spins depending on the number of Golden Cherries involved in the triggering combination.
There aren't dozens of modifiers suddenly introduced once the feature starts. The reels remain familiar and the main objective becomes landing further winning Cherry combinations to extend the bonus.

This is a sensible use of Stacked Symbols because they're directly connected to the headline feature rather than simply being another way of creating larger standard wins.
There's also some visual anticipation when several Golden Cherries begin occupying neighbouring reels. In a game this uncomplicated, you don't need much assistance working out what you'd like to see next.
The Diamond Wild substitutes for ordinary paying symbols and helps complete winning combinations across the game's 20 paylines.
There's nothing more elaborate hiding behind it. No multiplier, expanding behaviour or Walking Wild mechanic suddenly emerges.

What saves it from falling further is how focused everything is. Golden Cherries are relevant during normal play and become even more important during Free Games. The medium high volatility also gives the simple setup a little more bite than the colourful fruit presentation initially suggests.
One independent tester similarly found the base game fairly uneventful but the bonus substantially more engaging once repeated retriggers began arriving. That's obviously only one play session rather than evidence of typical results, but it fits the game's underlying design.

This is a difficult category because there aren't many features.
Golden Cherries trigger Free Games. Cherry wins can award more Free Games. Stacked Cherries help create those combinations. That's largely your lot.
The potentially huge number of additional spins is what pushes the score upwards. Starting with five spins and potentially building a substantially longer feature gives the bonus an appealing snowball effect. Apparat's stated maximum of 140 Free Games from a single qualifying hit is certainly unusual.
But our rating needs to reflect feature quality and depth, not simply the potential number of spins.
Compared with the likes of 5K Gold Mine Dream Drop or Dungeons & Dragons Power Combo, this is an extremely thin package.

3 Golden Cherries looks clean, colourful and exceptionally easy to read.
Gold and green provide much of the surrounding colour scheme, while the bright fruit, Sevens and Diamond Wild stand out clearly against the darker reel area. Independent descriptions consistently characterise it as a polished modern take on the classic fruit machine look.
But we're rating visuals, not simply checking whether they're competently produced.
There's very little artistic ambition here. Apparat has intentionally gone for traditional fruit machine imagery and minimal visual clutter. That works perfectly well for the game, but it doesn't deserve the same visual score as a slot containing detailed environments, characters and elaborate feature animations.
They're very nice cherries.

This is where we need to remain disciplined with the scoring.
A 5x3 fruit slot featuring Sevens, BARs, cherries, Stacked Symbols, a Diamond Wild and Free Spins is about as established a collection of slot ingredients as you're likely to find.
The one genuinely interesting wrinkle is the Free Games structure. Making the Golden Cherry both a paying symbol and the key to extending the feature gives the game a little more personality, particularly with the potential for a very large number of additional spins.
That's enough to stop it being completely generic, but 3 Golden Cherries isn't trying to reinvent anything.
And that's fine. Originality is only one part of our rating. A game shouldn't receive points for innovation it never attempted simply because it's new.

The base game is incredibly straightforward, with 20 paylines, Stacked Symbols and a Diamond Wild providing most of what you'll encounter between bonuses. The Golden Cherries give the game its one significant twist, awarding 5, 6 or 7 Free Games before further Cherry wins potentially extend the feature considerably.
There's nothing mechanically ambitious about it and visually we've seen variations of this fruit bowl countless times before. That's reflected in the rating. But simplicity isn't automatically a weakness. The game is easy to understand, its main feature has a clear purpose and the possibility of turning a tiny five spin bonus into something much longer gives those Golden Cherries a reason to keep your attention.
Apparat hasn't reinvented the fruit machine. It has just found a way of keeping the cherries spinning for considerably longer.
