Apparat has taken incredibly familiar fruit machine imagery and given it a clean, glossy finish. The gemstone treatment helps the fruit stand out, while the uncluttered 5x4 grid makes everything exceptionally easy to read.
Independent coverage similarly highlights the polished symbols, clean interface and minimalist presentation.
There's very little animation or spectacle to judge, though, and the underlying subject matter couldn't be much more familiar.
They're some very smart looking fruits.
There's no sensible argument for scoring this highly on originality.
Finest Fruits XL is deliberately based on one of the oldest concepts in gambling. Fruit symbols, Sevens, fixed paylines and straightforward reel wins are precisely what the game is selling.
It's also an expanded follow up to Finest Fruits, which Apparat originally released in May 2023. The principal change is the larger 5x4 layout and increased number of paylines.
I do give Apparat some credit for resisting the temptation to turn XL into another generic Hold and Spin game. Releasing something this uncomplicated in 2025 almost feels unusual in itself.
But unusual restraint isn't the same thing as original gameplay.

Instead, the original Finest Fruits formula has been expanded onto a larger 5x4 grid with 40 paylines and given a particularly polished gemstone presentation.
That makes the game difficult to score under our system. Its feature rating has to be low because there simply aren't any meaningful features, while originality is equally limited. But that doesn't automatically make Finest Fruits XL a bad slot.
In fact, its simplicity is probably its strongest selling point. Someone who wants to spin a clean, medium volatility fruit machine without learning what six different meters do will know exactly where they stand.
