Euro 2024: Turkey v Georgia - Match Preview & Odds

Georgia will kick off their first major international tournament as an independent nation on Tuesday as they take on Group F rivals Turkey in Dortmund. Statistically this is the weakest of the six groups at Euro 2024 but it is equally as intriguing as each of the other five groups. Here at betting.bet we will preview this key match between Turkey and Georgia, providing the latest team news, match insights and betting tips as well as pre-match odds and free bets courtesy of 10bet.

Form

Turkey topped their qualifying group ahead of FIFA World Cup semi-finalists Croatia but their recent form has been a concern. Turkey have played four times in 2024 and are yet to win a match. March’s international friendly double-header included a 1-0 loss away to Hungary and an embarrassing 6-1 defeat at the hands of Austria.

This month’s Euro 2024 warm-up matches saw Turkey earn a 0-0 draw away to current European champions Italy before a disappointing 2-1 loss against Poland.

Georgia, the lowest-ranked nation in this summer’s European Championships qualified for a first ever major tournament by edging out 2004 champions Greece in their play-off final. Georgia defeated Luxembourg 2-0 in their play-off semi-final but needed penalties to overcome Greece with the match goalless after extra-time.

Georgia only played one warm up game ahead of this summer’s tournament, clinching an impressive 3-1 win away at Montenegro last week. In the group stage of their Euro 2024 qualification campaign, Georgia finished fourth in Group A behind Spain, Scotland and Norway.

Team News

Turkey lost a host of players to injury prior to naming their final 26-man squad for Euro 2024 and the likes of Caglar Soyuncu, Ozan Kabak, Enes Unal and Cengiz Under were not named in Vincenzo Montella’s squad. Arsenal fans should keep a keen eye on full-back Ferdi Kadioglu with the 24-year-old linked with a summer move to the Emirates whilst Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler may have to settle for a place on the bench on Tuesday.

Solomon Kvirkvelia and Otar Kiteishvili are both minor doubts for Georgia whilst the stand-out name amongst the Georgian squad is undoubtedly Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The four-time Georgian Footballer of the Year has been tipped to shine in Germany this summer.

Predicted Line Ups

Turkey: Cakir, Celik, Demiral, Ayhan, Kadioglu, Ozcan, Calhanoglu, Kahveci, Akturkoglu, Yildiz, Yilmaz

Georgia: Mamardashvili, Kverkvelia, Kashia, Dvali, Kakabadze, Kiteishvili, Kochorashvili, Shengelia, Chakvetadze, Kvaratskhelia, Mikautadze

Betting Tips

Despite their ongoing injury problems, Turkey should be too powerful for Georgia and could be good value at 8/11 to take all three points from their opening fixture.

As for picking a Turkish goalscorer, Karem Akturkoglu looks as good a pick as any. The Galatasaray forward scored twice in qualifying and also hit double figures in the Turkish Super Lig this season. Akturkoglu is currently priced at 37/20 to score at any time or 9/2 to score first. However, Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu remains the Turkish talisman and offers solid value at 9/4 to score at any time.

Whilst Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is undoubtedly the star of this Georgian side, there is another forward amongst their ranks that may be slipping under the radar in the goalscorer markets. Georges Mikautadze has looked rejuvenated since returning to Metz in January, netting 13 times in 20 Ligue matches. Mikautadze has a decent record of 10 goals in 25 internationals for Georgia and scored in last weekend’s win over Montenegro. Mikautadze can be backed at 4/1 to score at any time against Turkey in Dortmund whilst the 23-year-old is a massive 8/1 to score the game’s opening goal.
