A Winless First Fixture
Slovenia kicked off their first major tournament since 2010 with a 1-1 draw against Denmark in Stuttgart. Denmark took the lead through Christian Eriksen but Slovenia equalised with 77 minutes on the clock through Erik Janza. Whilst Denmark had more than two thirds of the possession in Stuttgart, Slovenia certainly had chances to win the game and will take great encouragement into Thursday’s fixture.
Serbia sit bottom of Group C having lost 1-0 to England in Gelsenkirchen. Serbia were arguably the better team for around an hour of their opening weekend defeat however, for all the pressure they applied to a nervy England side, Serbia only managed one shot on target throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Team News
Slovenia came through the draw against Denmark unscathed and whilst experienced duo Benjamin Verbic and Jasmin Kurtic are amongst a number of players pushing for a place in the Slovenian starting lineup, Matjaz Kek is likely to name an unchanged side for Thursday.
Slovakia will make one enforced change on Thursday as Filip Kostic will miss the rest of Euro 2024 due to a knee injury picked up in the defeat to England on Sunday. Filip Mladenovic replaced Kostic just before half-time at the weekend and he should be in from the start against Slovenia.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic started in the number ten position against England but is likely to drop deeper on Thursday to accommodate the return of Dusan Tadic. The Serbian captain started on the bench against England but certainly did enough when he came on to earn a recall on Thursday.

If the first round of group matches are anything to go by, you should expect to see Serbia enjoy the lion’s share of possession on Thursday.
