Group Stage Form
Austria were surprise group winners as they continued their excellent form under Ralf Rangnick to finish ahead of France, Netherlands and Poland in Group D. Austria got their tournament underway with a 1-0 defeat against France due to a Maximilian Wober own-goal however, they went on to progress as group winners thanks to back-to-back wins over Poland (3-1) and the Netherlands (3-2).
Turkey’s opening game in Group F ended in a 3-1 win over Georgia but they were then swept aside in a heavy 3-0 loss against Portugal in their second match. Turkey bounced back to book their place in the knockout stage by defeating the Czech Republic (2-1) in their final group game.
Team News
Patrick Wimmer will miss Tuesday’s round of 16 tie after the Austrian winger picked up two bookings during the group stage. Wimmer is likely to be replaced by the in-form Christoph Baumgartner against Turkey. Meanwhile Marko Arnautovic is again likely to get the nod to lead the line ahead of Michael Gregoritsch.
Turkey have been handed a double blow with captain Hakan Calhanoglu and Samet Akaydin both set to miss out through suspension. Akaydin will be replaced by Abdulkerim Bardakci who is set to return from his own one-game suspension whilst Kaan Ayhan should get the nod ahead of Okay Yokuslu Orkun Kokcu in central midfield.

The absence of captain Hakan Calhanoglu is a major blow for Turkey and probably tips this tie in Austria’s favour. Austria cruised to a 6-1 win over Turkey in March and look good value at 19/20 to get this tie wrapped up inside 90 minutes.
