About Joker's Wild Crown - Diamond Treasures

Joker's Wild Crown - Diamond Treasures from Apparat Gaming combines an extremely traditional fruit machine with the optional Diamond Treasures side game. Released on 6 November 2024, it plays across a 5x3 grid with 10 fixed paylines, has medium low volatility, a 24.6% hit frequency and a headline RTP of 96.11%.

The reels themselves couldn't be much more familiar. Cherries, lemons, oranges, plums, grapes and melons are joined by BARs, bells and red Sevens. The standard Joker acts as a Wild, while the much more useful Joker's Crown can transform one or two other symbol types into additional Wilds. Apparat Gaming confirms this transformation mechanic in its own description of the underlying game.

The Diamond Treasures version then adds a completely separate optional side game. An additional Bonus Bet makes players eligible for a random feature involving three treasure chests. Reveal the necessary Diamonds and the feature progresses into a five reel numerical prize draw with four different betting levels.

It's an unusual combination.

The main reels are deliberately old school. Diamond Treasures feels as though somebody wheeled a considerably newer machine into the room and connected the two together.

Features

Joker (Wild Symbol)

The Joker is the game's standard Wild Symbol.

It substitutes for regular paying symbols to help complete combinations across the ten paylines.

There's nothing complicated about it. No multiplier, expansion or additional modifier.

The Joker has one job.

For once, he's taking it surprisingly seriously.

Joker's Crown (Transforming Wild)

The Joker's Crown is the much more interesting Transforming Wild.

The Crown acts as a Wild itself, but when it appears it also transforms one or two other symbol types into additional Wilds. Apparat Gaming specifically identifies this as the main feature of the original game.

This can work particularly well on such a compact 5x3 grid.

If the selected symbol is already scattered across several positions, one Crown can suddenly create a much larger concentration of Wilds.

It's simple enough to understand immediately but capable of completely changing the result of a spin.

Wild Transformation (Symbol Transformation)

The Wild Transformation is the effect created by Joker's Crown.

Rather than simply dropping one or two additional Wilds onto random positions, the Crown selects entire symbol types and converts their visible instances into Wilds.

That's an important distinction.

A screen containing several otherwise uninteresting fruit symbols can suddenly become considerably more valuable if the Crown chooses that particular fruit for transformation.

Apparently even a reel full of lemons can have a happy ending.

Diamond Treasures (Side Game)

Diamond Treasures is an optional Side Game attached to the main slot.

Players activate an additional Bonus Bet to become eligible for the feature, which can then trigger randomly during play. When it activates, the standard fruit reels give way to a separate treasure chest sequence.

This isn't a conventional Bonus Buy where you're paying a fixed multiple to immediately enter a feature.

The additional wager buys eligibility for Diamond Treasures while continuing to play the main game.

That makes the feature feel more like a separate game running alongside the slot than a normal bonus round.

Treasure Chests (Bonus Reveal)

When Diamond Treasures activates, three Treasure Chests are opened sequentially.

The objective is to reveal Diamonds from all three chests. Successfully doing so progresses the feature into its main prize stage.

There's not much skill or decision making involved here, so I wouldn't describe this as a true Pick Bonus.

It's better classified as a Bonus Reveal.

Its real purpose is suspense.

Three chests.

Three Diamonds required.

And suddenly opening a box becomes considerably more stressful than it has any right to be.

Diamond Prize Draw (Prize Draw)

Revealing the required Diamonds activates the Diamond Prize Draw.

This moves onto five number reels, with the resulting digits combining to determine the final prize. Mystery elements can also influence the outcome.

This is easily the most unusual part of the game.

Instead of moving into Free Spins or another Respin round, Joker's Wild Crown effectively changes from a conventional fruit machine into a numerical prize game.

That's a fairly dramatic change of direction for something that started with cherries and watermelons.

Diamond Treasures Levels (Bonus Levels)

Diamond Treasures provides four betting levels, with the available prize potential increasing according to the selected level. The side game itself has been documented at approximately 96.00% RTP.

This gives players some control over how heavily they want to engage with the optional feature.

It's also why I'd keep the Diamond Treasures statistics separate from those of the underlying slot in your database where possible.

Our Rating

Gameplay

6.8/10

The underlying game is intentionally simple.

A 5x3 grid and ten paylines provide traditional line based gameplay, while the standard Joker Wild doesn't do anything particularly unusual.

The Joker's Crown is what saves the base game from becoming completely anonymous.

Transforming one or two entire symbol types into Wilds can produce dramatically different looking reels from a single Crown appearance, and the mechanic is easy to understand without needing several stages of explanation.

Diamond Treasures provides something else to anticipate when the additional bet is active, but there's little progression within ordinary reel play.

It's accessible and occasionally lively.

It's not particularly deep.

Bonus & Features

30%
7.1/10

The feature package is small but quite unusual.

Joker's Crown provides the best standard mechanic, while Diamond Treasures introduces a completely different style of bonus through its chest reveals and subsequent numerical prize draw.

I actually prefer that to Apparat simply attaching another generic batch of Free Spins to the game.

The weakness is the amount of content.

Once you've accounted for the Crown and Diamond Treasures, there isn't a huge feature list hiding underneath them.

So while Diamond Treasures is distinctive, there's not enough mechanical depth here to justify pushing the score into the 8s.

Visuals & Presentation

20%
7.3/10

Apparat Gaming does the classic fruit machine look well.

The symbols are bright, clean and immediately recognisable, while the Joker and Crown provide enough personality to stop the game looking completely generic.

Diamond Treasures also provides a useful visual break from the main game when the treasure chests replace the familiar reels.

But there's no escaping what most of the screen contains.

Fruit.

BARs.

Bells.

Sevens.

There are only so many points I'm prepared to award a developer for drawing an exceptionally shiny watermelon.

Originality

10%
6.7/10

The underlying fruit machine isn't remotely original.

That's clearly intentional, but cherries, BARs, Sevens, Jokers and Wilds have been around considerably longer than online casinos.

The Joker's Crown earns some credit because transforming one or two complete symbol types into Wilds is considerably more interesting than simply placing a couple of random Wilds onto the grid.

Diamond Treasures provides the bigger originality boost.

An optional side wager leading into three treasure chests and then a five reel numerical prize draw is much less conventional than another Hold and Win or Free Spins feature.

It's essentially a modern side game attached to a deliberately old fashioned slot.

An odd pairing.

But quite an interesting one.

Final Summary

Joker's Wild Crown - Diamond Treasures feels like two different generations of casino game have somehow ended up sharing the same cabinet.

The main slot is unapologetically traditional. Five reels, three rows and ten paylines are filled with fruit, BARs, bells and Sevens, while the Joker performs the familiar Wild substitution role.

Joker's Crown is considerably better. It acts as a Wild while also transforming one or two symbol types into additional Wilds, potentially turning a fairly ordinary looking screen into something much more useful.

Diamond Treasures is where the game gets genuinely unusual.

Activate the optional additional bet and you're eligible for a separate side game where three treasure chests can lead into a five reel numerical prize draw. There are four betting levels, while the Diamond Treasures component has been documented with its own 96.00% RTP.

The main weakness is depth.

The Crown is a good mechanic and Diamond Treasures is different, but there's not a huge amount happening beyond those two ideas. That makes it difficult to score alongside games containing several genuinely interconnected mechanics.

Visually, Apparat has done a polished job with an intentionally traditional theme, but originality clearly isn't coming from the fruit reels. It's the contrast between those old fashioned reels and the rather unusual Diamond Treasures side game that gives this version its identity.

One database point I'd flag is the maximum win. Multiple current sources list 1,000x for this Diamond Treasures edition, while the underlying standard Joker's Wild Crown is officially documented by Apparat at up to 12,500x exposure. Those are different game versions, so I would not carry the 12,500x figure across to the Diamond Treasures entry.

The Joker brings the fruit machine. The Crown brings the Wilds. Diamond Treasures appears to have wandered in from an entirely different casino. Somehow, they get along reasonably well.
