Germany progressed to the knockout stage of Euro 2024 as Group A winners with seven points from a possible nine. After earning wins over both Scotland (5-1) and Hungary (2-0), Germany scored a stoppage time equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw against Switzerland.
The host nation were the top scorers in the group stage, scoring eight goals in their three matches with Jamal Musiala and Niclas Fullkrug amongst a group of just six players to have scored two or more goals in the tournament.
Opponents Denmark finished second behind England in Group C but in contrast to the free-scoring Germans, Denmark reached the last-16 having scored just two goals in three matches. Nico Schlotterbeck is set to come into the German starting lineup in place of suspended defender Jonathan Tah. Central defensive partner Antonio Rudiger is also a minor fitness doubt. The Real Madrid defender should be passed fit to play but Waldemar Anton is on standby.
Julian Nagelsmann has a major decision to make in attack with Niclas Fullkrug staking a real claim to start ahead of Kai Havertz after another goal-scoring display from the bench against Switzerland.
Thomas Delaney has made a timely return to fitness for Denmark and could be thrust into the starting XI on Saturday in place of the suspended Morten Hjulmand. Delaney missed Denmark’s first two matches but came through a brief substitute appearance against Serbia unscathed.
Alexander Bah came in to replace Victor Kristiansen for the draw against Serbia and the Benfica wing-back should retain his place in the Denmark starting lineup.
